Pet Loss

Eleanor Roosevelt got it right when she said, “Many people will walk in and out of your life, but only true friends leave footprints on your heart." And for many people, those footprints are left behind by their beloved pets.

At Cotter Funeral and Cremation care, we agree that pets are an important part of the family. And when we lose them, the loss is painful and the grieving process very real. We now offer pet care services to help you memorialize your special companion.

Pet Cremation Options in our own private crematory:

  • Individual  (private) cremation. Your pet is the only pet in the chamber, and the remains are returned. This ensures the highest level of purity of the remains. Prices range from $140 for a small (less than 30lbs) pet to $395 for an animal over 150lbs
  • Partitioned Cremation. Your pet is in the chamber with other pets physically seperated by large trays. There is a 150lb weight limit for partitioned cremations. Prices range from $95 for a small pet to $170 for a large pet (80-150lbs).
  • Group Cremation. Your pet is cremated with other pets with no division. Due to the nature of this process, the remains cannot be returned, but are instead scattered in a nature preserve. Prices range from $50 for a small pet to $200 for a pet 200lbs or greater.

Based on your family’s wishes, you are able to watch/attend the cremation in our comfortable lounge when you choose individual cremation for a small additional fee. Please note the maximum weight we can accomodate is 300lbs. If your pet is larger than 300lbs, please call us for referral information.

We are able to come to your home or veterinary clinic to take your pet into our care. Fees for this service range from $0 for a veterinary pick up to $350 for a private home transfer after hours. You may bring your pet to us during our normal business hours at no charge or we will meet you after hours for a $150 fee. 

Pet Memorialization

We offer a full selection of pet caskets, urns, custom jewelry and other personalization options and are happy to guide you in the selection process, as well with the placement of your pet’s remains. We offer digital catalogs as well- call or email for more information.

If burial is your preference, we offer caskets from simple corrugated cardboard to fully sealed caskets that prevent the intrusion of exterior elements. You may bury on your own private property, or we can refer you to local pet cemeteries.
