William "Bill" Fonferek, born on September 27, 1937, passed away on November 25, 2023, at the age of 86.
Bill was a hardworking and dedicated individual, known for his impeccable work ethic and exceptional skills as a mechanic and millwright. He spent many years honing his craft in the machine shop industry. He worked diligently at American National Can Company and later at Nelson Machine and Welding.
On October 23, 1965, he married Laona Olson and together they had two children, Peter Fonferek and Roy Fonferek. In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling and traveling, particularly to the Western U.S. He also served as an usher for many years at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Green Bay.
Bill also proudly served his country, dedicating eight years of his life to the Marine Corps Reserve.
In addition to his wife, Laona and children, Peter and Roy, he is survived by his siblings: Laverne Kriescher and Jean (Glen) Norman; in-laws: Pat Olson, Diane Olson, Anita Hearley, Ardella Nelson, Luann (Roy) Woodland, as well as his nieces and nephews.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Florence Fonferek; brothers, Norbert (Donna) Fonferek Sr. and Francis Fonferek, and his sisters, Irene (David) Petasek, Delores (Richard) Petasek, and Marilyn (Tony) Olson. He is also preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Robert Kriescher, and Laona's siblings: James Olson, Leroy (Diane) Olson, Cletus (Karen) Olson, David Olson, Wayne Nelson, and Evelyn (Bernie) Halverson.
Family and friends may visit at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, 140 S. Monroe Ave, Green Bay, on Friday, December 1, from 10:00am until 10:45am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am with the Very Rev. Brian Belongia officiating. Burial will be in Allouez Cemetery.
