William "Ed" Greenfield

January 6, 1935 — June 6, 2021

Edward Greenfield, 86, son of Juanita and Gay Greenfield, was born January 6, 1935, in Fort Smith, Arkansas and died June 6, 2021, in De Pere. He was a graduate of the University of Arkansas as well as the University of Missouri.

Ed worked as an Agricultural Agent for the University of Missouri Extension, the United States Department of Agriculture Workforce Development in Washington, DC, and later in the Department of Agriculture in the Green Bay Area.  These positions offered him the opportunity to travel extensively, getting to personally know the hearts and souls of American farming.

Following his retirement from the USDA, Ed enjoyed managing Woodlawn Cemetery in Green Bay.  He was an active and compassionate caretaker, loved by families and funeral homes alike.  After many years of selfless service, he retired as Chairman of the Board.

Ed also served his country as a member of the United States Army Reserves, retiring as a Colonel.

On July 1, 1983, Ed married the former Margaret Ann Ryan at St. Francis Xavier Church in De Pere.  Their love was solidly founded on mutual admiration, effective communication, and of course, a good sense of humor.  He kept gas in her tank and she kept his ducks in a row.

Sadly, Ed leaves Margaret Ann behind as well as his daughters, Marissa Aiken, Sandy (Greg) Stites; special sister, Ruth Staten Morrison; brothers-in-law, Jim (Bev), Dan, Bill (Ute), Pat (Sandi), and Dennis (Linda) Ryan; as well as many loving nieces and nephews- especially Sue and Karl Dahlen.

Ed had many good friends, all of whom he genuinely enjoyed and appreciated.

The family would like to thank Pat Ryan for always being there as well as to Bob Lewis.

The utmost gratitude is extended to everyone at Unity Hospice, beginning with Johanna De Bauche on November 9, 2019.

“I will be forever appreciative to Ed for our life together- reaching out to those in need.
                                                             -Love, Margaret Ann”
