Timothy Martin O'Brien

March 14, 1953 — August 18, 2023

Timothy “Tim” O’Brien, 70, of Green Bay, passed away Friday, August 18, 2023. The middle child and only son of the late Martin and Margaret (Quatsoe) O’Brien was born March 14, 1953, in Green Bay. Tim grew up in De Pere, graduating from Abbot Pennings High School and later attending St. Norbert College.

In 1990, Tim married Barbara Bell at Faith Lutheran Church in Green Bay. This union brought the welcome addition of his stepchildren, Derek and Lisa. Tim and Barb shared a lifetime of unwavering friendship.

Tim devoted his working career to Fort Howard Papermill where he worked in transportation management. He truly enjoyed his job and the people he worked with. He also learned the best route to get just about anywhere in the country. He retired in 2013.

The one passion Tim is most remembered for was his love of nature and its conservation. He was an avid volunteer of both his time and his money to nature conservancy groups including Green Bay Botanical Gardens, Red Cliffs Desert Reserves, as well as Curative Connections. He enjoyed traveling the country, visiting his home in St. George, Utah where he was very active with the Bureau of Land Management.

Anything related to the outdoors was near to his heart including hiking, biking, and kayaking near the land he owned on the river between Wisconsin and Michigan. He had extraordinary gardens of both vegetables and flowers and appreciated every opportunity to share all of nature’s beauty and bounties with everyone.

Tim is survived by his sister, Jane (Rick) Vander Heyden; his brother-in-law, Stephen (Deb) Krumpos, his former wife, Barb O’Brien; his stepchildren, Lisa Athey and Derek Bell; his step grandchildren; his nieces and nephews: Shawn, Bryan, Scott, Tracy, and Bridget; and many grand nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Margaret; his aunt, Lucille Quatsoe; his sister, Mary Krumpos, and his nephew, Chad Krumpos; as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Tim is also survived by his beloved cats, Sniffers and Moe, who have shared two decades of road trips and companionship.

In lieu of flowers, consider making a donation in Tim’s honor to the Red Cliffs Desert Reserve of St. George, UT or to the Green Bay Botanical Garden.
