Suzanne (Susie) Ecker, aged ninety-seven, passed away peacefully April 24, 2025. She was born in Milwaukee on August 20,1927 to the late Lee and Adel (Stuergeon) Wheeler. Suzanne grew up in Green Bay where she graduated from Green Bay East High School. She continued her education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1949.
After completing college, Suzanne worked one summer as a waitress at the Alpine Resort in Egg Harbor. There she met her future husband, Harold, the trumpet player in the band. Together, they created special memories at the Alpine Resort, later celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary there with family and friends.
Suzanne married Harold Ecker at St. Francis Cathedral in Green Bay on July 28, 1951. They made their home in De Pere, raising four children. Sue was actively involved in her community, including the Green Bay Service League, St. Vincent Hospital Auxiliary, The Literacy Council and St. Francis Xavier Church.
Suzanne began her teaching career at Kaukauna High School, teaching English, Speech, and Spanish. After raising her children, she returned to work as a substitute teacher in the Green Bay and Wrightstown school districts.
Sue loved her family and friends, gardening, reading, entertaining, playing bridge and golf. She was thrilled to have scored a hole in one at the sixth hole at Alpine. She and Harold enjoyed creating experiences together and one of their treasured times was golfing at Crail in Scotland with their son Hans and his wife Dana.
Suzanne is survived by her children, Mary Lee Vidrine, Hans (Dana) Ecker, Scott (Gretchen) Ecker and Lizbeth (William) Schneider. She is further survived by eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Suzanne was preceded in death by her parents and by Harold.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 220 S. Michigan St, De Pere beginning at 10am with Suzanne’s Memorial Mass to follow at 11am.
