Ruth A. Theunis

Ruth A. (Ver Hagen) Theunis, 88, passed away peacefully Friday, January 26, 2024. She was born on July 9, 1935.

Ruth graduated from Wrightstown High School in 1953. In her younger years, she worked at her parent’s restaurant. After graduation she worked at Smitty’s Shoe factory in Wrightstown. Ruth and her husband Bill united in marriage on Bill’s 20th birthday – November 7, 1956. Together they worked side-by-side and moved to the family farm in 1964. She also worked at the Wrightstown American Legion for over 40 years.

Ruth loved to cook, bake, and embroider dish towels. She also enjoyed traveling, playing cards, random casino visits, doing word search puzzles, and watching wrestling and game shows on TV.

Ruth is survived by her children: Patti Bowers (friend Mike), Mark (Andrea), Jeff (friend Sally), and Nancy Portman (friend Jerry). Grandchildren: Joanne Bowers, B.J., Jeremy (friend Amber), Kristy (friend Matt), and Christina Portman. Great-Grandchildren: Aiden and Wyatt. Brother & sister-in-law Bill & Carol Ver Hagen, Sister-in-law Marlene Coenen. Daughter-in-law Colleen Theunis. Son-in-laws Bob Portman and John Martin, nieces, nephews, and additional step-family.

Ruth was proceeded in death by her loving husband Bill. Together they spent over 61 wonderful years before his passing in August of 2018. She is further proceeded by her daughter Liz (Theunis) Martin, parents Richard & Della Ver Hagen, parents-in-law Ed & Christina Theunis, sister and brother-in-law Donna (Jerry) Deering, two brothers early in life Elmer & Dickie, son-in-law Myron Bowers, brother-in-law Jim Coenen, and additional step-family.

Family and friends may visit at St. Clare Parish – Wrightstown on Saturday, February 3rd from 9:00am until 10:45am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am with Fr. Bob Kabat officiating. Burial at St. Paul Cemetery, Wrightstown. Cotter Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Ruth wanted to thank her children and grandson B.J. for taking care of her for the last few years so she could continue to live on the family farm.

Ruth’s Family would like to extend their gratitude to Father Bob, Deacon Ken Kabat, her nurse Ashley, and Unity Hospice.
