Ron Poister

February 2, 1944 — January 21, 2025

Allouez

It is with both sadness and hearts full of love that we share the passing of Ronald Brooks “Ron” Poister on January 21, 2025, at the age of 80. Ron leaves behind his beloved wife of 58 years Joyce, sons Paul Poister (Kristin) of Denver, Colo. and David Poister (Sara Carney) of De Pere, Wisc. The shining light of his six grandchildren remains bright: Jonathan and Abby Poister of Denver and Asa, Linus, Gus and Vera Poister of De Pere. Sisters Barbara Jordan (Germantown, Wisc.) and Marilyn Livingston (Ocoee, Fla.), niece Amy Lotz (Reston, Va.) and nephew Chris Livingston (deceased) shared Ron’s broad embrace. Nieces, cousins and relatives stretch coast-to-coast.

Ron was born on February 2, 1944, in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania to Paul and Eileen Poister. The loss of his father at a young age shaped his character and instilled the importance of family early-on. After graduating from Beaver Falls High School Ron went on to Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he met Joyce, the love of his life and source of unwavering strength until the end. As a young adult Ron was Baptized into the Roman Catholic Church, the start of a journey of faith that was his life’s centerpiece.

Ron served two years with the U.S. Army Quartermaster Corps., including a tour of duty in Vietnam during which he was awarded the Bronze Star among numerous commendations.

His career as a teacher spanned four decades sharing his passion for American history and social studies with eighth graders at Hampton Township Middle School in Western Pennsylvania. He enriched thousands of students in the classroom and through field trips to some of the nation’s most iconic historical landmarks. He garnered the greatest respect and admiration of his colleagues, many of whom remained lifelong friends.

Before moving to De Pere in 2006, Ron spent six years working at Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia, further sharing his deep knowledge of and enthusiasm for America’s past.

Ron generously gave back to the community in his adopted hometown of De Pere by teaching at the Aging and Disabilities Resource Center in Green Bay, delivering Meals on Wheels throughout the area, contributing many volunteer hours at Resurrection Catholic Parish and cheering on the Notre Dame Academy Tritons football team.

Ron gave boundless love to his family for which no sacrifice was too great and care had no end. Though his loss will long be mourned, his life will be forever cherished.
