Richard C. Ley

Richard C. Ley (Mountain Man), 64, Greenleaf, entered his eternal hunting grounds on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2022 at his home. Mountain Man was born in Green Bay on February 2nd 1958 to Ann and the late Don Ley.

In his younger years he took interest in raising rabbits and Chinese geese. In his twenties, he got his CDL, purchased a truck, and became an over the road truck driver. Later on, Rick worked for the Outagamie Highway Department plowing snow and paving roads until retirement. Upon retirement, he assisted Country Aire Farms with harvesting their crops.

Rick lived a simple life, and was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt, fish, and make fire wood. He also enjoyed giving his grandsons atv rides through the woods by his home. Rick was one of the founding members of the Southern Brown County Chapter of the Izaak Walton League.

Rick is survived by his step daughters, Bonnie Smith, Julie Smith (fiancé Tanner Nichalos); His mother Ann Ley; 2 brothers, Steve (Sue), Don (Jenny); 5 sisters, Jean Geiger, Barb (Frank) Martin, Linda Vander Heiden (fiancé Loren Miller), Mary (Tom) Sekeres, Rose (Scott) Shaefer; Grandsons Cal and Mack Burton; Godson and dear friend Jake (Nikki) Geiger; many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends

In addition to his father Don, Rick is preceded in death by his nephew Jonathon Geiger.

Family and friends may visit at St. Clare Parish- St Patrick Site (7815 St. Pat’s Church Road, Greenleaf (Askeaton) on Friday, December 16, from 1-3:30pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 4:00pm with Fr. Brian Wideman officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Cotter Funeral and Cremation Care is assisting the family.

The family would like to say thanks to Home Instead, ProMedica Hospice, D&G Restaurant, and Father Brian Wideman. We also wish to recognize the care his brother Steve and his wife Sue Ley gave to him while he was sick.
