Petrice Margaret Getschow passed from this life on January 29th, 2025, at her home in Green Bay, WI. As a lifelong Green Bay native and Packers’ fan, Petrice attended St. Willebrord Grade School and graduated from St. Joseph Academy in 1964. On September 3rd, 1966, she married Joseph Getschow. On December 3rd, 1967, Petrice began her journey as a full-time mother with the birth of the first of her five children, Thad. Four other children, Daniel, Jennifer, Joseph Jr. and Luke would follow in the years afterward.
Though being a homemaker at her home on Webster Street in Allouez for over fifty years, her true passion was art. She loved to express herself through pottery, gardening and interior decorating. She wrote in her artist statement, “While visiting my daughter and her family in Chile, I discovered some very unique South American folk art; wrapped vases and bottles. Loving the primitive appearance, I developed a method of wrapping vases, bottles, runs and Terra Cotta pots with natural fibrous materials. The pieces are then artistically processed, and each one becomes unique with its own intrinsic beauty.” Petrice went on to sell her artwork in Green Bay and Arizona for several years.
That “intrinsic beauty” Petrice was so capable of creating also found its way into her own art collection of folk art. Paintings, tapestries and ceramics adorned her home in Green Bay from the numerous international trips that she and her husband, Joe had taken throughout the Carribean and United Kingdom.
Her creativity with natural materials and interior decorating continued with nature one step further through outdoor gardening. Petrice also found beauty in the natural environment not far from the steps from her home on Webster Ave. She was an avid gardener, winning an award for her front yard’s landscaping. She found joy in making her gardens colorful and whimsical.
Petrice was preceded in death by her beloved first-born son, Thaddeus Joseph Getschow, her parents, John Michael Doro and Agnes Caroline Doro (Duerr), her sisters Jane Doro and Mary Jo Donovan and her brother John Doro. She is survived by her loving husband Joseph Lynn Getschow, her children Daniel, Jennifer, Joseph and Luke (and their spouses) and grandchildren Sebastian, Zachary, Lucas, Liam, Valentina, Emery, Cate, Gordon and August.
