Orval Rautmann

May 28, 1937 — February 2, 2023

Orval L. Rautmann, 85, Allouez, passed away at his home on Thursday, February 2, 2023. Orval was born to his parents Omer and Verona Elder Rautmann on May 28, 1937 in Sheboygan, WI. Orval attended several grade schools and graduated from the same school he started in, the Monroe Grade School in Sheboygan County. He also graduated from Plymouth High School in 1955 and attended UW River Falls for one year and graduated from UW Oshkosh with a B.S. Degree in Chemistry. He was employed at Green Bay Packaging, Inc. for thirty-seven and one half years as a chemist/Chief Chemist.


Orval married Judy M. Nytes at Holy Name Catholic Church on July 28, 1962 in Sheboygan, WI. They resided their entire married life in Green Bay, WI. They had two children, Debra (Bruce) Landess and Cameron Rautmann. They have five grandchildren; Melina (Logan) Baitinger, Brae (Jerret Parker) Landess, Blaine Landess, Cody Rautmann and Krista Rautmann. Four great grandchildren; Greycen and Jaelynn Baitinger, Liam and Landon Parker.


Orv was active in the local chapter of the American Chemical Society for a short period going through the chairs and then leaving. He joined Lake States TAPPI a local section of the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry and was their bulletin editor and photographer for about six years and also went through the chairs. He aided in establishing the Lake States TAPPI scholarship fund for the UW Stevens Point Pulp and Paper Science Department. He was the thirteenth recipient of the local section outstanding member award. He was also active in several local environmental committees.


Orv enjoyed traveling and visited Turkey, Greece, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, Alaska and areas of the U.S. He enjoyed golf and went up north to their trailer during the summer and wintered in Mesa, AZ for many years. He loved to dance with his wife.


He is survived by his wife, Judy and children. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law Tony Dragan and Bill Shepherd; daughter-in-law Amy Rautmann; sisters-in-law Joanne Dragan, Darleen Rautmann, and Geri Shepherd.


Orval was preceded in death by his parents; brother Ronald; sisters-in-law, Mary Nytes and Juanita Nitsch Albrecht; brothers-in-law, Jerome Nytes, James Nytes, Robert Hert, Donald Nitsch and Arno Albrecht.


Family and friends may visit at Resurrection Catholic Church, 333 Hilltop Drive, Allouez on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 from 9:00am to 10:15am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Orval at 10:30am with Rev. Tom Reynebeau officiating. 


Interment in Wildwood Cemetery, Sheboygan, will be Thursday February 9 at 11:00am. Cotter Funeral and Cremation Care is assisting the family with arrangements.
