Passed away on September 16, 2026, at the age of 89. Nic was born on June 18, 1937, at St Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan, WI. His parents, Nicholas M. and Annette (Voelker) Wahl, moved the family soon thereafter to Green Bay. Nic, along with his 3 wonderful sisters, Nancy (Riley), Mary (Meisel) and Sandi (Cramberg), grew up on the west side of Green Bay. A west-sider as a kid and an east-sider as an adult, Nic made many friends and created countless memories in the Green Bay community. He was a graduate of Central Catholic High School as well as St. Norbert College, where he was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame in 1992. He spent his entire career in Green Bay working as a stock broker and enjoyed following the markets and trading well into retirement. Nic will be remembered as a kind and caring man, quick-witted and fun-loving with a penchant for mischievous pranks. He was someone you simply enjoyed being around.
Golf is life. Well, not exactly and certainly not for everyone, but for Nic the game of golf formed the backbone for his life. It was his passion.
His talent level was exceptional and his accomplishments many. His father joined Oneida Golf and Riding Club when Nic was a kid and it was there that the titles and trophies started accumulating. Among many other titles, he won the Oneida Club Championship 15 times over a remarkable 7 different decades, with his first title in 1958 and his last in 2010. There is a funny Brett Favre “tin cup” story that played a part in one of them. He also won the Club Championship 6 different times at Innisbrook, the PGA tour venue in Florida. He constantly tinkered with his game, always looking for that next magical swing thought and often driving us crazy with all of them. He was a very good athlete and that helped him play competitively both right-handed and left-handed. He was a scratch golfer from the right and a single digit from the left. His 13 holes in one are the envy of his kids (who collectively have zero). He had 12 of them right-handed with the last one in 2023 left-handed. He served as President of Oneida, the Northeastern Wisconsin Golf Association and the Wisconsin State Golf Association.
More importantly, golf brought life-long relationships. Golf played a large part in his 62 year marriage to his beloved wife Joan (Ryan). He taught her the game and she also became a good player. Together they formed friendships with so many wonderful Green Bay families and, when many of their friends moved down to Innisbrook to escape the Green Bay winters, they followed them and their circle of friends expanded to include what seemed like all of Ontario, Canada. Thank you all for your kind notes and memories.
While Nic certainly enjoyed all of his adult friendships, he was young at heart and seemed happiest when around the carefree nature of youth. For many years he coached 4th and 5th grade basketball at Resurrection and many of the relationships with his players followed him through his life. He also coached his two sons when they were kids, taught them the game of golf and later created countless memories with them on the golf course. He thoroughly enjoyed being a fun uncle to his many nieces and nephews and there was no greater joy for him than when he was able to spend time with his three grandsons, Nicholas, Jack and Alec. It was during those moments that his mischievous side shined. And they loved him dearly.
Nic is survived by his two boys, Nic Jr. (Sally) and Scott (Nim), and his grandchildren, Nicholas (Sofia), Jack and Alec Wahl. He is also survived by his beloved sisters Sandi Cramberg and Mary Meisel; his in-laws Pokey Cramberg, Kathy Kapalin and Tammy Ryan; and his many nieces and nephews in the Ryan, Riley, Cramberg and Kapalin families. Nic was preceded in death by his wife Joan in 2023; his parents Annette and Nicholas M. Wahl; his sister Nancy Riley; in-laws Tom Riley, John Meisel, Daryl Kapalin, Pat Ryan, Jim and Sharon Ryan; and his nieces Jennifer Meisel and Melissa Kapalin.
