Michael James Van Egeren, age 66, passed away peacefully with family by his side after a brave and hard-fought battle with ALS. He was born in Madison, WI on January 5th, 1958 to James and Burnell Van Egeren. Michael spent most of his young life in Green Bay and lived in Madison, WI for the past 38 years. He attended Resurrection Grade School, Abbot Pennings High School and University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.
Michael proudly worked as a Laboratory Technician for Becton Dickinson Laboratories in Madison, WI for 27 years until his retirement.
He was an avid sports fan and especially loved the Green Bay Packers and the Wisconsin Badgers. He collected Packer memorabilia. The other great sport he loved was sailing which he did a lot with his brother Mark. He belonged to the Lake Monona Sailing Club where they sailed successfully and competitively for years in Madison on Lake Monona, in Ephraim in Door County and elsewhere in the United States. Other activities he loved were gardening, bird watching and playing video games.
Michael is survived by his mother, Burnell Van Egeren, his sister Suzanne Van Egeren, his brother Mark Van Egeren and his sister-in-law Kelly Van Egeren; his sister Sara Van Egeren, brother-in-law Steve Wegner and niece Tilly Wegner. He is also survived by his dear friend and housemate, Rachel Fosnot, and his special friend and cousin Lisa Van Egeren. Other survivors include his aunts and uncles: Bruce and Jane Stoehr, John and Joan Van Egeren, and Faye and Stan Kiefer; and his many dear cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father James Van Egeren, his uncle Tom Van Egeren and his aunt Joanne Van Egeren.
Michael’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Unity Hospice and the ALS Association of Wisconsin for their help in his care at the end of his life.
Services for Michael will be held on Saturday August 10th at Resurrection Catholic Church, 333 Hilltop Dr., Green Bay. Visitation is set for 10 am, funeral services at 11am with a luncheon to follow at church.
