It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Hoogland, age 17, on Friday, July 17, 2026, after a courageous battle with Lymphoblastic leukemia and Macrophage Activation Syndrome. Michael was born on March 31, 2009, in Green Bay to Wanda Hoogland and Michael Stoneking. He was preparing to begin his senior year at East De Pere High School.
If you knew Michael, you knew he could make just about anyone laugh. He was known for his long, flowing hair, his sarcastic sense of humor, and the pranks he loved to pull—especially those early in the morning. He had a way of making every situation a little lighter, even when life wasn't. He was fiercely protective of the people he loved and always looked out for his family and friends. Michael loved adventure. Whether he was exploring somewhere new, swimming, or spending time up north at Jim's cabin, eating double bacon cheeseburgers at Everbreeze, he was happiest making memories with the people he cared about. He loved gaming, especially Far Cry 5 and Fallout, building LEGO sets, and watching Tom & Jerry and Scooby-Doo. One of his greatest joys was finally getting his dream bedroom, designed around Fallout and Far Cry 5 by the incredible team at Special Spaces of Wisconsin. He was always willing to try foods from different countries, loved red balloons, and could spend hours watching his favorite YouTube channel, FGTeeV. His beloved "creepy monkey" was never far away and became just another part of the Michael everyone knew and loved. More than anything, Michael will be remembered for the joy he brought into the lives of others. His laugh was contagious, his smile unforgettable, and his heart far bigger than he ever let on. Even through the hardest battle of his life, he showed incredible strength, determination, and courage that inspired everyone around him. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories that his family and friends will hold onto forever.
Michael is survived by his mother, Wanda (Greg Corpus) Hoogland; his father, Michael Stoneking; his siblings, Dustin (significant other, Yasmine Friend) Malechek, Layna (significant other, Alex Huerta) Hoogland, Lynzee Brey, Wayland Stoneking, and Wayne Stoneking; his aunts and uncles, Jamie Hoogland, Melissa Cisler, and Matthew (Anne) Hoogland; his grandparents, Joan (Todd Brey) Hoogland, Joe (Michelle) Hoogland, Jim Vand De Hei, and Mike and Robin Stoneking; his godparents, Chris and Becky Robinson; his cousins, Peter, Ian, and Robert; his beloved cat, Chester; his closest friends, Brycen, Kai, Zander, and Ethan; along with many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his dear friend, Nathan Chervenka.
