Melvin Graczyk, age 84, of Denmark, passed away Monday, February 1, 2016 surrounded by his family. The son of the late Alex and Alice (Wondrash) Graczyk was born March 30, 1931. He married Elizabeth J. Gunville on October 4, 1952, and together they celebrated over 63 years of marriage. Melvin worked for 39 years at James River, and was a member of the Town of Eaton board, Knights of Columbus, was an usher at SS. Cyril and Methodius and recently at St. James. An avid sports fan he loved watching his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren at all Denmark Viking School activities. Mel spent many weekends watching football, especially the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Green Bay Packers (a season ticket holder since 1957). He enjoyed bowling and golf, and was proud to have a hole-in-one. Survivors include his wife, Betty; children: Daniel of Denmark, Debra (Nic) Lyons of Denmark, David (special friend Jane) of Green Bay, Steven (Kristen) of Denmark, Sandra (Scott) Niles of Denmark and Cheryl (John) Knuth of Denmark; grandchildren: Michael (special friend Jill), Michelle (Eric) Guns, Kathryn (Kevin) Lenci, Peter (Jill) Lyons, Teresa (David) Story, John (Megan) Lyons, Ben (Della) Graczyk, Donald Angrabright, Matthew Graczyk, Melissa (Shawn) Brady, William (Jennifer) Niles, Amanda (Jon) Shedlosky, Jenny Knuth and Jessy (special friend Garrett) Knuth; 19 great-grandchildren; a sister Joan Schleis; sister-in-law Olive LeBeau; as well as many friends and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law Sylvia Graczyk, a brother Stanley Graczyk, sister Bernie (Dick) Stein, father-in-law and mother-in-law Fred and Dena Gunville, and a brother-in-law Claude Schleis; Betty’s sisters: Louise (Pat) Schaut, Lucille (John) Legois, Lillian (Ronald) Beaudoin, Helen (Russell) Crawford, Virginia (Phil) DeCraene, Betty’s brothers Joseph (Helen) Gunville, Raymond (Lorraine) Gunville, Larry LeBeau. Family and friends may visit at Knutson-Cotter Funeral Home, 536 County Road R, Denmark, on Thursday, February 4, from 3:00pm until 7:00pm. A parish prayer service will be held at 6:30pm Thursday evening. Visitation will continue on Friday, from 10:00am until 10:45am at St. James Catholic Church, Cooperstown. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am Friday. Burial in SS. Cyril and Methodius Cemetery, Eaton. Our family would like to extend a thank you to Sister Gerri Krautkramer, Aurora BayCare Medical Center, and Bob Ronsman for his friendship.
