Mary Helen Van Dyk, age 98, of De Pere, passed away July 28, 2025. The daughter of the late Edward and Mollie (Shaughnessy) Kane was born on February 22, 1927 in Green Bay. She married John Van Dyk on October 18, 1947 at Old St. Joe’s Church, and he preceded her in death in 2012.
Mary and her friends proudly formed the “ABC Girls” with the purpose of visiting estate sales and enjoying each other’s company. Her and John enjoyed traveling, with the most memorable trip being to Ireland, as well as wintering in Florida for 25 years. Mary was a volunteer with Unity Hospice, helping families in need during a difficult time. Her pride and joy was her grandchildren, and she always made time to be involved in their activities.
Surviving Mary are her children: Rod (Ann) Van Dyk, Peter (Carol Schmidt) Van Dyk and Bill Van Dyk; grandchildren: Andrew Van Dyk, Mollie (Ryan) Severson, Ellen (Michael) Bowman, Elizabeth (Jose) Carmona, Sara Van Dyk, Sam (Caitlyn) Van Hefty, Hannah (Hakeem) Imoru, William (Emma) Van Hefty and Olivia Van Hefty. Mary was proudly called GG by her 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John, parents Edward and Mollie and 4 brothers; Jerome Kane, Lawrence Kane, Edmund Kane and Francis Kane. Mary also unfortunately lost two children, Mary Beth Van Hefty and Paul Van Dyk, but was their constant companion and strength during their illnesses.
Family and friends may visit at Resurrection Catholic Church 333 Hilltop Drive, Allouez, on Saturday, August 2, from 9:30am until 10:45am. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 11:00am with Fr. Bob Kollath and Fr. Jim Baraniak, O.Praem concelebrating. Interment in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, De Pere.
