Mary Ellen Duquaine, 89, longtime resident of De Pere, died peacefully Wednesday morning, February 29, 2012, after suffering with Alzheimer’s disease. The daughter of the late Frank and May Duquaine was born July 19, 1922, in Crivitz, Wisconsin, and was the oldest of six children. A graduate of St. Norbert College, Miss Duquaine taught generations of students in Green Bay and other Wisconsin communities during her forty year career. Mary Ellen’s gift was writing poetry and she used this, especially Haiku, to inspire her students writing. She was an associate member of the Carmelite Order. She is survived by two sisters, Kathleen (Gene) Walters, Crivitz, Monica (George) Morin, White Bear Lake, MN; two brothers, Francis (Helen) Duquaine, Peshtigo, Dan (Polly) Duquaine, Anderson, IN; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Donald Duquaine. Friends may call on Saturday, March 3, 2012, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 220 S. Michigan St., De Pere. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Saturday at church, with Bishop Robert Morneau officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Crivitz.
