Marilyn C. (Fonferek) Olson, 81, De Pere, passed away on Monday, October 16, 2023.
The daughter of the late Peter and Florence (Van Der Kelen) Fonferek was born on December 5, 1941, in Green Bay. Marilyn attended Pleasant View School in De Pere. She is a 1960 graduate of De Pere High School. On May 14, 1966, she married Anthony Olson at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Green Bay. Tony preceded her in death on September 10, 2012.
Marilyn had worked in manufacturing for 22 years and most recently in custodial maintenance for 25 years. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, De Pere, for over 50 years, where she was very active in the Altar Rosary Society and was the funeral lunch coordinator and server for 30 years. Marilyn’s Catholic Faith was a very important part of her life, it was a joy for her to volunteer and spend time at her church. She was devoted to praying the rosary and a longtime member of the Confraternity of the Holy Rosary Society, proudly not missing the monthly prayer meetings. Her other hobbies were cooking and baking for family and friends, scrapbooking of years gone by, and she also enjoyed traveling. Most of all Marilyn loved spending time with her family, especially her cherished grandson, Cory, and the time they shared.
Survivors include her son, Curtis (Shelly); her special grandson, Cory (Josie Van Deurzen); sisters, Laverne Kriescher, and Jean (Glen) Norman; brother, William (Leona) Fonferek; Tony’s family, Pat Olson, Diane Olson, Anita Hearley, Ardella Nelson, Luann (Roy) Woodland; many special nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Carla Marie Olson; brothers, Norbert (Donna) Fonferek Sr., and Francis Fonferek; sisters, Irene (David) Petasek, and Delores (Richard) Petasek; brother-in-law, Robert Kriescher; in-laws, James Olson, Leroy (Diane) Olson, Cletus (Karen) Olson, David Olson, Wayne Nelson, Evelyn (Bernie) Halverson; as well as Tony’s family and other relatives.
Family and friends may gather at Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N. Webster Ave., De Pere Sunday, October 22, 2023, from Noon to 3 pm. The Most Holy Rosary Society will lead a Rosary beginning at noon. A funeral service will be held at 3 pm with Deacon Kevin DeCleene officiating. Entombment in Allouez Chapel Mausoleum.
Marilyn’s family respectfully asks for donations for a memorial fund to be made in lieu of flowers.
