Margaret Lillian Koenig, age 96, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on September 11, 2024. Margaret was born in Green Bay on March 22, 1928 to Matthew and Florence (Barrett) Kulhanek. She attended school in Pilsen. On April 7, 1948 she married the late Wilbert Koenig at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pilsen. Together, Wilbert and Margaret raised 5 children while operating the family farm.
In her earlier years, she worked as a cook at Riverside Ballroom and also worked at Greiling Farms. She was an avid gardener, loved spending time scrapbooking, and enjoyed baking and canning. She made delicious methunky, sauerkraut with potato dumplings, and raspberry tarts. Margaret was an excellent writer and wrote poems and notes for her children and grandchildren. She crocheted afghans and made quilts for her grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, mother, “Nana” and “G-ma” and was fondly known as “Aunt Margie”.
Margaret is survived by her children: Cheryl (Ralph) Demmin, Lynn Kudick, Faith Jaeger, Mike Koenig, and John Koenig (special friend Carie Jens); 14 grandchildren: Matthew (Sarah) Demmin, Sarah (Kevin) Smet, Jonathan (Tricia) Demmin, Amy Kudick, Beth (Bob) Johanek, Jesse (Jeana) Jaeger, Katie (Cory) Champeau, Nicole (Toby) Rabas, Danielle (Nick) Sorensen, Brooke (Shane) Michiels, Luke (Britteny) Koenig, Taylor (Alex) Peters, Jacob Koenig, Jackson (special friend Cheyenne) Koenig; 22 great-grandchildren: Madelyn, Ryan, Brianna, Alyssa, Tyler, Marissa, Seth, Mackensie, Madison, Amber, Kaitlyn, Mason, Addison, Preslie, Max, Wyatt, Levi, Eli, Gabriel, Wesley, Cooper, Luelle, and one on the way; 3 great-great-grandchildren: Brynley, Zander, and Emersyn; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Wilbert, her parents, her mother and father-in-law Joseph (Mary) Koenig; daughter-in-law Cheryl Koenig, sons-in-law Ron Kudick and Glenn Jaeger, brother and sister-in-law John (Evelyn) Kulhanek, sisters and brothers-in-law Mae (Wilfred) Wiese and Florence (Norbert) Koenig, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Leona (Howie) Bowe and Bernadine (Merlin) VanderKinter, and nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may gather starting at 8:30 am on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 3425 Willow Rd, Green Bay. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am with Rev. Jim Dillenburg presiding. Margaret will be laid to rest at the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum.
