Louis B. Schlies, age 92 of Denmark, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 29, 2021 with his daughter and three sons by his side. He was born on August 25, 1928 to the late Joseph and Anna (Chervenka) Schlies, in Stangelville. He was drafted into the United States Army and served during the Korean War. After his return he met and married Rosemae Vanness on October 24, 1951. Louie and Rosemae took over the family farm and lived there their whole life until health issues took a tole and Louie needed continuous care. He held jobs in addition to running the farm, Louis worked for Wisconsin Sugar Plant, he was a bus driver for the Denmark School District, Jergensen Cheese of Denmark and Kewaunee Engineering as well as Treasurer for the Town of Franklin. Louie was a member of the St. Lawrence Holy Name Society, Parade Marshall for 100-year Centennial for St. Lawrence and a member of Council 4735 Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of American Legion Post 363, Denmark and participated in the Old Glory Honor Flight to Washington D.C. Louie will be always remembered for his famous hamburgers, he was always up for a ride, especially listening to polkas on the way to McDonalds for his Chicken Sandwich and Medium Diet Coke.
Louis is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, 3 sons and daughters-in law: Dale (Judy) Schlies of Denmark, Theresa (Leon) Suster of Denmark, Paul (Nancy) Schlies of DePere, Lester (Nancy) Schlies of Denmark; ten grandchildren: Andy (Angie) Schlies, Ashley (Zack) Lacenski, Amanda (Jason) Baugnet, Angela (Nate) Michiels, Jamie Schlies, Nicole (Ben) Franz, Jennifer (Kenny) Strack, Tyler (special friend Lexi), Tammy Schlies (Fiancé Damon Vandenack), Joe Schlies and 12 great grandchildren: Ally, Aubrey, Addison, Jacob, Adam, Abraham, Audrey, John, Hugo, Harlow, Bowyer and Daxton. Two brothers in law, Lawrence Vanness and Constant (Rosie) Vanness.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemae, his parents Joseph & Anna Schlies; in-laws Louis & Alice Vanness; four brothers; Jacob (Emily) Schlies, Joseph (Mabel) Schlies, Alivin (Bernice & Jeanette) Schlies & Benjamin (Viola) Schlies, sisters in law; Marie (Clarence) Marchant, Anna (Alvin) Kugel, brothers in law, Clarence (Pat) Vanness, Joe Vanness; Sister-in-law Janet Vanness,
Friends may call to Cotter Funeral Home-Denmark Chapel, 536 Cty Rd R, Denmark after 3:00PM on Friday, February 5, 2021. A parish wake service will be held at 7:00 PM to conclude the evening. Visitation Continues on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at St. Therese Parish-St. Lawrence Church in Stangelville (N2085 County Rd AB, Denmark) after 9:30am until 10:45am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am with Father Dennis Drury officiating. Burial will be at St. Lawrence Cemetery on Saturday after mass. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
