Lola Mae Karas, age 93, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, surrounded by her loving daughters. She was born on January 22, 1932, to the late George and Marion (Pazourek) Schriver in New London, Wisconsin. She graduated from Green Bay East High School. On September 15, 1951, at Trinity Lutheran Church, she married Gerald R. Vandertie, he passed away in May of 1970. On December 5, 1980, she married William L. Karas at Trinity Lutheran Church. He passed away in June of 2000.
In her early years, Lola worked for the Wisconsin Telephone Company as a Switchboard Operator. In the 70’s, she returned to work, working at Northwest Fabrics for many years, then Marchant’s Fabrics. Lola loved sewing! She made all her girls’ clothes for years, making prom dresses and even wedding dresses for all four of her girls. Lola was active in her church, Trinity Lutheran Church as a member of the Quilters Group as well as the Endowment Committee. She also enjoyed bowling, camping and going to the cottage on the bay. She loved traveling, her favorite place to travel to was the Eastern Coast of Maryland. Lola could always be found at her grandchildren’s music and sporting events. Her presence will be missed greatly by her loved ones.
She is survived by her four daughters; Bonnie (Paul) Vanden Branden, Green Bay, Kathy (Allen) Sunstrom, Appleton, Lori (Daniel) Vertz, De Pere and Kelly (Andrew) Farvour, Suamico, grandchildren; Jared (Katie) Vanden Branden, Joel (Nicole) Vanden Branden, Adam (Katy) Sunstrom, Kelsey (Keith) Scott, Nicholas (Janel) Vertz, Erin (Stephen) Lasslo, Shannon Johnson, Jason (Thari) Farvour and Jessica Farvour. Lola is further survived by her great grandchildren; Morgan, Regan, Elijah, Taylor, Madyson, Johanna, Lillian, Elliott, Alexa, Annika, Camden, Gavin, Sophia, Naiomi, Hayden, Zander, Caleb, Natalie, Charlotte, Alaina, Jerald, Sawyer, Oliver, Chessney, Ellie, Ainhu and Dion, sister in law, Mary Schriver, niece, Linda Brown, nephews Michael Sickles and Tom Schriver, step brother, George (Nancy) Schriver and step sister, Karen Oberg.
Preceding her in death are her first husband, Gerald Vandertie and second husband, William Karas, father, George (Dorothy) Schriver, mother, Marion (Bert) Bigford, brother, William Schriver, sister, Anne Sickles and Shannon's husband, James Johnson.
In keeping with Lola’s wishes, a private family service was held.
