Lois M. Phelps, age 91 of New Denmark, passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2021 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 13, 1930 in Green Bay to the late Otto and Esther (Hansen) Barta. Lois was a graduate of Denmark High School class of 1947 and on October 14, 1950, she married Edward Phelps at St. Francis Cathedral, in Green Bay. He preceded her in death. She lived for her first 20 years as a resident of New Denmark, then became a wife, mother and grandmother while living in Green Bay for the next 40 years of her life. She then returned to New Denmark after retirement to live the remainder of her life. Lois was a bookkeeper for Kriwanek’s Ford Garage in Denmark, a cashier at C.I.T. Finance Co. and Montgomery Ward Retail Store. She belonged to the Manitowoc County Genealogical Society, was a Cub Scout Leader and a Girl Scout Leader. She enjoyed doing Genealogy research as well as gardening and watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. As a devout Catholic, she prayed the Rosary daily. Her greatest accomplishment in life was being a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She is survived by her daughters; Kristine (Giovanni) Barone-Adesi, Switzerland, Kathryn (Jeffery) Haanstad, Hartland, WI, Karen Phelps, Denmark, WI and Mary (Alan) Wesoloski, Abrams, WI her sons; Thomas (Janeen) Phelps, Denmark, WI, Frederick (Debra) Phelps, Denmark, WI, and Joseph (Joan) Phelps, Tuscaloosa, AL. Grandchildren; Luke and Victoria Barone-Adesi, Switzerland, Brian (Sheila) Haanstad, Slinger, Carrie Haanstad, Hartland, Rebecca (Derek) Sizer, Pewaukee, Eric Haanstad, Hartland, Tammi (Mike) Dittmer, Denmark, Tim (Jennifer) Phelps, Denmark, Charles (Angie) Phelps, De Pere, Katie (Victor) Barrientos, Green Bay, Anna Lois Phelps, Atlanta, Maria Jo Phelps, Tuscaloosa, Jennifer Wesoloski, Oconto Falls and Kayla Wesoloski, Montana. Lois is further survived by great grandchildren; Chloe, Esther and Wayland Haanstad, Brock and Logan Sizer, Izaac, Jaycob, David and Rebekah Dittmer, Maykayla, Spencer, Elizabeth and Emmalee Phelps, Sophie and Wyatt Phelps, Nesah and Mateo Barrientos and Jayden Huiting, as well as other relatives and friends.
Lois is preceded in death by her husband, Ed as well as her parents.
Family and friends may gather on Thursday, March 11, 2021 from 9:00am until 10:45am at St. James Catholic Church, Cooperstown 18228 County Road R, Denmark, WI. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00am with Fr. Santiago Turiano Jr. officiating. Entombment will take place at Allouez Catholic Cemetery and Mausoleum. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Unity Hospice for the compassionate care given to Lois.
