Lois Leonhard, age 94 of De Pere, passed away peacefully with her loving children by her side. She was born on May 22, 1930, to the late Cyril and Eleanor (Reddemann) Haberman in Milwaukee. She graduated from East De Pere High School and went on to Northwest Institute of Medical Technology in Minneapolis, where she earned a degree as a Medical Technician. On October 1, 1953, she married William “Bill” Leonhard, who preceded her in death in 2017.
Lois won many awards from the diocese for her Physical Education program she started at St. Mary Catholic School, in Greenleaf. A shopping trip to Arthur Norgaard, Birch Creek landed her a job there as a sales associate and buyer for the store. Lois was also an “Egger”, making thousands of masterpieces from eggs, a passion she didn’t begin until after her retirement. She also loved her family, spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren was her most cherished time.
She is survived by her children; Kenneth (Lori), Milwaukee, Leah Leonhard, Madison, Joe (Amy), Greenleaf and Julie (Tim) Sherer, Indianapolis, grandchildren; Lance (Kate) Leonhard, Wausau, Luke Leonhard, San Francisco, Amanda (A.J.) Kopczyk, Milwaukee, Malia (Jeff) Leick, Albuquerque, NM Bridget Sherer, Dayton, OH and Marissa (Joe) Lesner, Rockford, IL. Lois is further survived by great grandchildren; Nolan, Lucia, Nicholas, William, Benjamin, Jacob, Adalynn and William.
Preceding her in death are her parents, her husband, infant daughter, brother, Peter Haberman, sister, Arlette (Al) Reque as well as Bill’s siblings.
Family and friends may gather on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, beginning from 10:00am to noon, with a memorial service to follow at Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N. Webster Ave, De Pere. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Lois’s name can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
The family would like to thank the nurses and entire staff at Woodside, including the kitchen staff, maintenance, housekeeping and Pastor Steve. Everyone she encountered was so important to her. Also, nurses from Unity for the great care she received.
