Laurell "Laurie" Metoxen

May 2, 1948 — January 23, 2025

Laurel Lee “Laurie” Metoxen (Wilson) 76, quietly and peacefully passed on Thursday, January 23rd, 2025 at Unity Hospice in De Pere, WI after an extended battle with cancer. Laurie was born on May 2nd, 1948 in Green Bay, WI and was the daughter of Raymond and Janet (Umnus) Wilson of Seymour, WI. She went to Seymour High School and afterwards went to N.W.T.C to become a surgical technician. She worked at St. Mary’s Hospital in the emergency operating room where she made lifelong friendships.

After several years of working in the operating room, she decided to embark on a new career path and became an architectural draftsman. Throughout her architectural career she worked for C.P.R. Associates, Jacobs Engineering, and Kocken. All along the way she enjoyed being productive and collaborative, but loved nothing more than making the workplace a fun environment. Again, she made lifelong lasting memories and friendships.

Laurie was formerly married to Earl T. Metoxen of Oneida, WI and together they had two sons, Daniel and Thomas Metoxen. Being a mother of two boys wasn’t always easy, but she always loved a good challenge. She not only rose to the challenge, but was a mother any son could ever wish for and more.

In retirement, Laurie looked for opportunities to meet new people and make a difference in other people’s lives. She volunteered as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (C.A.S.A) to help youth girls to advocate for their safety and well-being. She also worked at Restore and enjoyed meeting co-workers and the customers. She loved to talk to anyone who could strike up an interesting conversation. She enjoyed several hobbies and activities which included arts and crafts, antiquing, gardening, reading, furniture restoration, and watching the Green Bay Packers.

She believed that we all should “do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” She gave so much for other people, to the point when people would ask why; her response was always “What would Jesus do?”

The most important thing in her live was her family and friends, and her beloved dog, Jasmine. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and watch them grow throughout the years. An afternoon with her “ladybugs” always had special place in her heart.

A true testament to the relationships she made throughout her life is the amount of kindness and support that was offered to Laurie in her time of need. Whether it was as simple as a conversation, or helping other needs, the outpouring of support was truly appreciated by Laurie and her entire family.

Laurie is survived by: Her Children; Daniel (Kimberly) Metoxen, Thomas (Breiann) Metoxen, Grandchildren; Jaina and Jacelynn Metoxen, Miles and Maisie Metoxen, a brother, Dave (Kathy) Wilson, a sister, Sally (Al) Wagner, and her beloved dog, Jasmine. Laurie was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Janet Wilson.
