Kathryn “Katie” Rasmussen, age 97, passed away December 8, 2021. She was born November 6, 1924 to Mike and (Helen Reedy) Keehan in Maribel. She married Reginald “Rex” Rasmussen in Denmark October 17, 1947. The couple farmed on the Rasmussen Homestead, a Century recognized farm, until they retired in 1987.
She was a graduate of the Denmark High School. After attending the Manitowoc Normal School, she taught at a one room school (Woodlands) for 3 years in Stangelville. She then received a Degree in Education from Silver Lake College in Manitowoc. She was employed a number of years with the Green Bay School District, and later as a substitute teacher with the Denmark Schools.
She was an active member of the Brown County Extension Homemakers for over 50 years. She did volunteer work at Bellin Hospital and the Literacy Council. Being a member of All Saints Altar Society, she served as a Eucharistic Distributer for senior citizens at the Harmony House, now Scandinavian Court. She is a member of the Brown County Retired Teachers Association.
Katie enjoyed reading, dancing, boating and traveling to areas in the USA, Hawaii and Europe.
She is survived by her daughter Karen (Robin) Zahran of Sturgeon Bay and their children: Susan, Jeannine, Nadia (Derek) Anderson and their daughter Margaux, Carmel (Michael) Stout-Zahran and their two children Nora and Decklan; son Ron (Jan) Rasmussen and their children Jennifer (Jon) Pederson and their two children Abby and Hunter; son Ryan Rasmussen; step-daughters Christina Lohff and Alexa Rickey; 8 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; brother-in-law Lee Carroll; sisters-in-law: Marlene Keehan, Shirley Keehan and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents and husband, Rex; Katie was preceded in death by her brothers: Ralph and his wife Mary Jane Keehan, Earl and his wife Vernie Keehan, Michael Keehan, Gerald Keehan; sisters: Joan Keehan, Dolores Loberger and her husband Oscar, Teresa Carroll, Florence and Luella KeehanKatie lost many of her family members and dear friends over the years, but still was concerned and interested in the lives around her- especially her good neighbors.
Family and friends may visit at All Saints Catholic Church, 145 St. Claude Street, Denmark, on Friday, December 17, from 10:00am until 11:45am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00pm with Fr. Xavier Amirtham, O.Praem officiating. Entombment will be in the Shrine of the Good Shepherd in Green Bay. Cotter Funeral and Cremation Care is assisting the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Denmark Fire Department or the Denmark Community Cupboard.
