Kathryn Ann “Katie” Dykes passed away on November 30, at Unity Hospice. The daughter of the late Frank and Stella Korzilius was born in Racine, WI on Sept. 11, 1951.
She is survived by her children (Kathryn, Stephanie and John), sister Mary Ann (Kim) Watt of Cape Coral, FL, dear cousin Jeff Karls of Madison, WI, brothers-in-law John Dykes of Columbia, SC and David (Pam) Dykes of Clemson, SC. She is preceded in death by dear, loving husband Joe and brother Mark.
Katie earned her BS in nursing at the College of St. Theresa, Winona, MN. Her career path led her to work at Visiting Nurses in Milwaukee, Milwaukee County Medical Complex ICU and Visiting Nurses, Green Bay, WI. She earned her Master’s in nursing from UW Oshkosh and then worked at Prevea Health as a nurse practitioner. She was also a member of the adjunct clinical faculty at Alverno College, Milwaukee, WI and a lecturer in the Masters in Nursing Program at Concordia University, Mequon.
She used her nursing and educator expertise through numerous volunteer positions. Most recently at Love Life Ministry and Brain Center of Green Bay. Other volunteer work includes: ESL tutor at Literacy Green Bay where she tutored many Spanish speaking students; member of the founding Board of Directors of Casa ALBA Melanie, Green Bay, WI; phone counselor at Crisis Center of Family Services; victim advocate at Sexual Assault Center Family Services; CPR instructor at American Red Cross, Lakeland Chapter; emergency assistant at Weidner Center for the Performing Arts. She served on the Alzheimer’s Association Greater WI Chapter Board of Directors, Casa ALBA Board of Directors and currently has been a citizen member of Brown County Health and Human Services Committee.
Because of her volunteer and professional achievements, she received multiple honors and recognition throughout her more than 52-year career. She was named one of President George H.W. Bush’s “Thousand Points of Light”. She was also volunteer of the year in Brown County multiple times and received letters of commendation from US Senators Herb Kohl and Robert Kasten, US House Representative Toby Roth, and Governor Tommy Thompson.
She was a member of Resurrection Catholic Parish since 1981 where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and lector. She volunteered as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Vincent Hospital for more than 20 years.
On April 2, 1977, Katie was united in marriage to Herman “Joe” Dykes. They shared 42 years together before his passing on Dec. 23, 2018.
Family and friends may gather at Resurrection Catholic Parish, 333 Hilltop Dr., Green Bay on Friday, December 6, 2024, beginning at 9:00am until 10:45am with the Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00am, with Rev. Tom Reynebeau officiating. Entombment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Mequon Wisconsin.
