Karen passed away peacefully at home September 5, 2021. She spent her last days at home surrounded by family and friends.
Karen was born on October 30, 1946. She was the oldest child of Jim and Vern (Malcore) Skornicka. She graduated Kewaunee High School in 1964 and then graduated beauty school from the Milwaukee Accredited School of Cosmetology at Green Bay in 1965. Karen began her career at Richard’s and following the couple’s move to Denmark, she joined her best friend BJ Goral at BJ’s Boutique and worked for over 40 years keeping the Village looking its best.
She married Joseph Duckett on June 24, 1967, and they were blessed with 2 children and 5 grandchildren. They just celebrated 54 years with a family celebration at her favorite restaurant, the Redwood Inn. She and Joe enjoyed vacationing in Door County with the family and traveling to warm destinations with friends to golf and unwind. She was a big Packer fan and enjoyed watching games, both in person and on TV. She also enjoyed spending time with and spoiling her grandkids. Karen had a reputation among family and friends for making excellent popcorn and Methunky.
She is survived by her husband, Joe; son Jeff (Julie); daughter Jennifer (Andy) Calhoun; grandchildren McCain, Brady, Kassidy, Kypton, and Macynn; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-laws, Dick and Lynette Duckett, Bob and Betty Duckett, John Duckett, Mary Ellen and Tom Simons, Tim and Jayne Duckett, Dennis and Sandy Duckett; aunt Joyce (Malcore) Matzke; 2 godchildren: Jason Goral and Tony Duckett; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and her special friend BJ Goral.
Karen is preceded in death by her parents, brother Bob Skornicka, brother-in-law Jim Rasmussen; sisters-in-law Betty (Mleziva) Duckett and Mary Lou (Schaetz); niece Leah Gray.
Family and friends may visit at Cotter Funeral Home- Denmark, 536 Cty Rd R, Denmark, on Friday, September 10, from 4-8pm with a parish prayer service at 7:30pm. Visitation will continue on Saturday, at the funeral home, from 9:30 until 10:30am. Friends are then asked to meet at All Saints Catholic Church in Denmark for an 11:00am Mass of Christian Burial with Fr. Xavier Amirtham, O.Praem officiating.
Special thanks to the care team at Bellin, the wonderful staff at Unity Hospice, and to Dinah Calhoun and BJ Goral for the extra time spent with her in her last days.
