Karen (Stange) Cotter

June 4, 1952 — August 12, 2025

Karen A. (Stange) Cotter, age 73, of De Pere, passed away August 12, 2025, following a recent surgery. The daughter of the late Vernon and Genevieve Stange was born on June 4, 1952.

Karen was known for her incredible talents in quilting, sewing, and her cherished collection of buttons. She found joy in creating beautiful quilts and stitching memories into every piece. Her passion didn’t end there; she also had a special fondness for dolls, which she lovingly cared for over the years. Her kind-hearted nature endeared her to many, and her selflessness meant she would even give you her last Seroogy’s turtle!

Most importantly, Karen adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought endless joy and laughter into her life. She had a way of making even the smallest moments feel special and cherished, and her legacy will forever live on in them. Professionally, Karen touched many lives while working at Shopko, Walmart, and as a teacher's aide at Lincoln Elementary School. Her kindness and dedication made a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Karen is survived by her loving husband, Dan; children: Theresa “Tracy” (Richard) Peters, Dave (Stacy) VerBoort and Dan (Melissa) VerBoort; grandchildren Shaynon (Alex) and their daughter Nora, Christopher, Kaitlynn, Kylee (Alec) and their daughter Summer, Emma and Colton; siblings: Lynn (Russ) Stange, Julie (Bob) Bruss and Rebecca (Mark) Wallschleager; Dan’s siblings: Mary Jo Cotter, Jean (Dennis) Van Hoof, and Mike (JoAnn) Cotter; as well as special goddaughter Danielle, dear friend Cheryl, as well as other nieces and nephews and her beloved dog, Bindi Lou.

In addition to her parents, Vernon and Genevieve, she was preceded in death by her grandson Jase and cat Stewie.
