Judy Smith (Van Wassenhoven), age 58, of Appleton, passed away Sunday, August 29, 2021 at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee with her family surrounding her. The daughter of the late Fred and Loretta (Heller) Van Wassenhoven was born September 20, 1962 in Green Bay. She graduated from East De Pere High School in 1980 and went on to attend Black Hawk Technical College. Judy’s main job in life was working around the house and caring for her grandchildren. On May 26, 1984, she married Todd W. Smith at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in De Pere. Judy enjoyed: talking, shopping, walking, taking care of her flowers, spending time with and caring for her family, as well as crafts with her grandchildren. She was a member of Christ the Rock church in Appleton.
Surviving Judy is her husband Todd; children: Heidi (Josh) Verhagen and Sarah (Cory) Gessert; grandchildren: Mason and Madilyn Verhagen, Ellie and Lucy Gessert; sisters: Terry (Mike) Brozek, Beth (John) Dekeyser, Chrissy (Doug) Adams, brother-in-law: Tim (Kathy) Smith as well as several nieces, a nephew and two granddogs Gunner and Saylor.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Loretta, and her in-laws: Bernard and Velda Smith.
Family and friends may visit at Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N Webster Ave, De Pere, on Saturday, September 4 from 10:00am until the time of service at 12:00pm with Pastor Peter Leschke officiating. At the request of the family, all guests are asked to wear masks while indoors.
Our family would like to thank the caregivers at Froedtert Medical Center, especially the CVICU team for their loving care and constant support during her final days with us.
