Joan Ryan Wahl of Green Bay, Wisconsin (1939-2023) Obituary
Passed away on August 23, 2023. Joan was born on June 20, 1939 in Milwaukee. She was 15 years old when she moved with her family to Green Bay. Joan graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy in 1957 and then attended Rosary College in Illinois. With her big, beautiful smile, Joan soon met the love of her life and husband of 62 years, Nic Wahl. Joan and Nic had two sons, Nic Jr and Scott.
Joan celebrated life with a vivacious and competitive spirit and a big heart that touched all who knew her. Joan took up golf when she met Nic and became an avid golfer with countless rounds of golf and 6-holes-in-one. As a “people person”, Joan drew in those who she met with her big smile. She would talk to anyone and everyone, often at great length. She loved her clothes, she loved her chocolate and Coke, and took great pride in her garden and her many baskets of flowers. The joy she found in these flowers was often a central theme in her impressive collection of paintings which she started in her 50’s. Joan was happiest when she was surrounded by her family and friends, all of whom she loved dearly.
Joan is survived by her husband Nic as well as her two boys, Nic Jr. (Sally) and Scott (Nim), and her grandchildren, Nicholas, Jack and Alec Wahl. She is also survived by her beloved sister Kathy Ryan Kapalin, her sisters and brothers-in-law Nancy Riley, John and Mary Meisel, Pokey and Sandi Cramberg, Tammy Ryan and her many nieces and nephews. Joan was preceded in death by parents Ethel and John Ryan; her brother Jim Ryan and his wife Sharon; her brother Pat Ryan; her brother-in-law Tom Riley, her brother-in-law Daryl Kapalin and her niece Melissa Kapalin.
