Janet Mary Schabell

June 20, 1925 — June 12, 2022

Janet Mary Schabell (McKenney), age 96, DePere, WI, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family on June 12, 2022.

Janet was born on June 20, 1925 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Her parents were George and Leone McKenney. She moved with her family to Elcho, Wisconsin as a toddler. After graduating from Elcho High School, she moved to Chicago and took a government job to support the war effort. She was married to Daniel Scheer on April 12, 1945 and had two children. She was very active as a volunteer in the community of Hales Corners, WI. She loved gardening and was especially involved in community theater. Her quick wit and great storytelling made her really fun to be around.
In later years, she reconnected with the love of her life, Warren Schabell. They were married on September 29, 1973, and made their home in the house that “Pud” built in Post Lake, WI. They raised horses and shared their home with their dog, Taffy. Janet and “Pud” traveled frequently and enjoyed cooking together. They were very happy in their house in the woods surrounded by nature and friendly wildlife.

After “Pud” passed, Janet became a snowbird and spent many happy winters walking the beach in Panama City, Florida with a wonderful group of Florida friends. She also loved to play Bingo and the slot machines and visited Oneida casino well into her nineties.

Janet is survived by her son, Micheal and her beloved sister and best friend, Patricia Moore. She is also survived by her nieces, Mary Kate DallaValle, Jane Hokans (Carl), Elizabeth Pronold (George), Phyllis Moore, and nephew, Thom Moore (Mary Regan) and many great nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. She was a central figure in their lives and loved by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Warren “Pud” Schabell, her daughter, Susan and her infant son. Also, her parents, Leone and George McKenney, her nephew, David Moore, her brother in-law, Robert Moore and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
