Obituary

James “Jim” Steinberger, 79, of Greenleaf, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2026. Jim was born on November 14, 1946, to the late Raymond and Lucille (Forst) Steinberger. He graduated from Denmark High School in 1965.

Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Vermillion (AKA-107) from September 6, 1966, until September 6, 1968. He continued to serve his country with the Naval Reserves in Green Bay from September 6, 1968, until his retirement on November 30, 1991. During that time, he was affiliated with the USS Richmond K. Turner (CG-20). He was a member of American Legion Post 436 in Wrightstown, where he served as sergeant-at-arms, vice-chair, and a member of the color guard. He was also a proud member of the Knights of Columbus.

Jim worked in assembly at the Ariens Company and then went on to work at Greenleaf Landscaping, the job he loved most. He loved being able to work outdoors and felt he worked for some of the most wonderful people anyone could ask for. Unfortunately, due to his age, he had to make the difficult decision to leave. He finished his working career at Modern Plastics, where he made towel dispensers found in bathrooms throughout the world. After retirement, he took a part-time job with Per-Mar Security, which gave him and Jane the opportunity to work at the Packers Stadium during home games for several years.

He married Jane Brantmeier at St. Patrick Church in Askeaton and was a member of St. Clare Parish, serving Askeaton, Greenleaf, and Wrightstown. Jim loved visiting with family and friends. He especially enjoyed going on cruises with Jane’s family and visiting their children in Oklahoma, Missouri, and wherever else they happened to be. He and Jane also traveled throughout Europe and particularly enjoyed their trip to South Africa

Jim will be missed by his loving wife of 57 years, Jane; his daughter, Jennifer (Wade) Popp; and his grandchild, Bethany. He is also survived by his foreign exchange students, whom he thought of as his children: Teresa Capilla-Spain, Soeren (Maria Elana) Seegert-Germany, Roy (Dianna) Jongejan-Netherlands, Milo (Petra) Nozka-Germany, Yvonne (John) Hoogendorp Geerts-Netherlands, Piotr (Anna) Rozanski-Poland, Peter (Kristen) Mruk-Germany, and Stian Andreas Olsen; and their children: Vivian, Valerie, Jake, Elisabeth, Nikolas, Ezra, Kaden, Izaak, Noel, Stella, and Jan.

He is further survived by his brothers and sisters: Betty Steinberger, Kenny (Teri) Steinberger, Lucille Steinberger, Cathy (Paul) Peterson, and Nancy (James) Sellars; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Mary Mancoske, Joanne (Ron) Propson, Tom (Joyce) Brantmeier, Don (Judy) Brantmeier, Jean Klug, Bob (Donna) Brantmeier, Laura Heimerl, and Joe (Fancy) Brantmeier; his godchild, Tracy (Brantmeier) Brockman; and many nieces and nephews.
