James “Jim” Lunney, a man of profound faith, quiet generosity to many charities, and legendary kindness, passed away peacefully in hospice care on January 29, 2026, at the age of 93.
Jim was a lifelong Catholic whose life was rooted in the values of hard work and service. He spent decades as a dedicated employee at Fort Howard, providing for his family with a steady hand and a reliable spirit. His commitment to his community was perhaps most visible at Resurrection Parish, where he not only donated but also personally tended to the Lunney Family Rose Garden, ensuring a place of beauty and reflection for all who visited. He served as a volunteer firefighter for Allouez for many years.
A true Wisconsinite at heart, Jim was a longtime Green Bay Packer season ticket holder, weathering many seasons with loyal enthusiasm. He found his greatest peace in the outdoors—whether he was waiting for a bite on his fishing line or watching the activity at his bird feeders from his favorite chair.
Jim was perhaps best known for his hospitality. His handmade “cherry bounce,” made from cherries picked in his beloved Door County, a labor of love shared with family, friends and neighbors as a Christmas gift, became a cherished holiday tradition that exemplified his generous nature. He gave freely of his time and his resources, always looking for ways to support those around him.
Jim is now reunited in eternal rest with his beloved wife, Mickey, who preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by his parents, Kay and Jutes, and brother, Brian.
He leaves behind a rich legacy through his six children: Pat (Lori), John, Mary Kay (John), Dan (Marco), Mike (Lynn) and Tim. He is further survived by a large family of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, his sister Kit (Rick), many nieces and nephews, cousin Sheila, and many dear friends who will miss his steady presence and kind heart.
