James (Jim) Halbrook, of Sister Bay passed away on October 3rd at the age of 95. Jim proudly served in the US Air Force during the Korean War fixing airplanes, where he discovered his lifelong passion for electronics and aviation. In 1953, Jim married a Denmark High School classmate, Doris Kane and they enjoyed 57 years of marriage in Green Bay, WI. After his service, he owned and operated Jim’s TV. After his retirement, he worked for his son Tim. Jim was a pilot and built his own airplane. He built a cottage on Lake Noquebay where countless family memories were made.
Five years ago, Jim moved to Sister Bay to be closer to family and enjoyed playing cards and trivia.
Jim is survived by his 5 children, Sue (Dave) Bartel, Ami (Russ) Carpenter, Bethe (Bill) Wright, Tim (Paula) Halbrook and Mary (Phil) Hudson. He was blessed with 9 grandchildren, Jenny (Kevin) Stencil, Jon (Tawny) Bartel, Nick (Nikki) Bartel, Josh (Carli) Wright, Whitney (Chase) Vaughn, Troy (Lauren) Carpenter, Meg Carpenter, Jessica Halbrook and Helen Hudson; his great grandchildren, Jaymes, Jonah, Austin, Hank, Brady, Ellie, Nico, Davey, Eddy, Juniper, Holden, Ivy, Mia and Olivia, Emma; brother, Dick (Bette) Halbrook and sister, Joan Warner; and his 10 grand dogs.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Doris, his parents, Leo and Helen, brother Wayne (Dorothy), and brother-in-law, Bob.
We ask family and friends to celebrate his life with us on October 22, at Susters Tavern in Denmark at 4 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Friends of Ephraim-Gibraltar Airport where funds would be used for youth flying lessons.
