James “Barney” McVey, went to heaven on August 1, 2026, after a courageous fight with Follicular Lymphoma and COPD. The cancer devil took his body, but the Lord won his soul. He was born on March 13, 1948, in De Pere to the late Donald and Rosemary (Aerts) McVey. He graduated from East De Pere High School in 1966. On September 7, 1970, he married Janet Titulaer at St. Mary Catholic Church, De Pere. He was employed with Bark River Culvert and Equipment for 37 years, and Tower Pallet until his retirement. Barney enjoyed ice cream, welding, camping, off road racing, stock car racing, and tractor pulling. He was a member of the Rough Riders Horse Club and Central WI Antique Tractor Pullers Inc. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and granddaughters. His humor, his creativity and love will be missed by all his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janet, son, Matthew (Sue) McVey and daughter, Amy (Dennis) Leiterman, granddaughters, Megan (fiancé Cory Harmon) McVey, Madeline McVey, Emma (Brad) Leiterman and Sarah (Jacob) Leiterman. He is further survived by his sisters, Joyce (Bob) Paul and Sharon McVey-Lange, brothers, Glenn (Jeannie) McVey and Randy (Karen) McVey, sisters in law, Barb Titulaer, Mary Scray, Alice Roffers, Jean (Dick) Hutjens, Deb Titulaer, Janet Fonferek and Theresa (Doug Walton) Bergner, brothers in law, Jerry Titulaer and Dick Robertson. God daughters, Allison Corrigan and Tammy Roffers as well as many loving nieces and nephews. Best friends Jack (Marion) Vande Hey and many more partners in crime.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Don and Rosie McVey, sister, June Manders and niece, Jennifer Manders. Barney is further survived by his brothers in law, Dr. Richard, Tom, Mike, John and Dan Titulaer, Lee Roffers and Leon Scray, sisters in law, Margo Robertson and nephew, Jared Hutjens.
Family and friends may gather on Friday, August 7, 2026, at Cotter Funeral Home, 536 County Road R, Denmark from 9:00am until 11:45am, at which time there will be a brief time of sharing.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Ryan, and the Unity Hospice Angels, especially Becky and Jessica.
