Howard "Howie" Stein

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Howard “Howie” Stein, who passed away peacefully on July 18, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on December 31, 1942, in Green Bay, WI, Howard was the son of the late Bernard and Genevieve (Scray) Stein. 

Howard married his beloved wife, Rosie Laurent, on August 23, 1969, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Pine Grove. Together they built a beautiful life that spanned over 55 years. Howard was proud to have worked for 62 years as a milk tester for DHIA, where he displayed unparalleled commitment to the dairy industry and local farmers. 

A lover of polka music, Howard became a great polka dancer starting at the age of 4 and could always be found tapping his feet to his favorite tunes. He cherished weekends spent fishing with his family, especially his mom, dad, brothers and kids, and enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. He was known for his enthusiasm for "Classic Tractor Fever" and enjoyed attending horse pulls. A skilled bowler and pool player, he loved nothing more than a good game with family and friends. His true joy, however, came from spending time with his grandchildren. 

Surviving Howard are his wife, Rosie; children: Scott (significant other Paula) Stein, Kelly (Jennifer) Stein, Mark Stein and Tammy Stein; grandchildren: Alexis (Josh) Vande Hei, Jayden, Spencer and Isabel Stein; brother Roy Stein; Rosie’s siblings: Betty Powers and Marilyn (Ted) Schott; sister-in-law Kathy Stein, brother-in-law Wayne Lemmens, as well as nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Bernard and Genevieve, he was preceded in death by his siblings: Ronald (Mary) Stein, Jerome (Judy) Stein, Roger Stein, Marlene Lemmens; brothers-in-law: Gary Laurent and Dennis Powers.

Family and friends may visit at Cotter Funeral Home-Denmark (536 County Road R) on Friday, July 25, from 3-7pm. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 pm with Fr. Patrick Beno officiating.
