Helen K. Piaskowski

January 12, 1922 — March 24, 2011

Helen K. Piaskowski, 89, Allouez, passed away unexpectedly at a local hospital on Thursday, March 24, 2011. She was born January 12, 1922 in Chicago, IL, daughter to the late Joseph and Agnes (Zborowska) Matiash. She graduated from Laona High School and NWTC Business School. During her high school years she was a baton leader, which she was very proud of. Helen grew up in Laona and later moved to Green Bay, where she met and married her husband, Cyril (Cy) Piaskowski on June 25, 1949, and together raised five children. He preceded her in death on August 14, 1990. She worked as an administrative secretary for NWTC. Helen liked baking and cooking, and was an avid Packer fan. Helen loved her children and grandchildren dearly and had a great affinity for animals. She will be deeply missed by her children and spouses: Kathy and Dave Frost, Traverse City, MI; Bob and Lois Piaskowski, and Debbie and Jerry James, of De Pere; Don and Annette Piaskowski, and Dave Piaskowski, of Green Bay; eight grandchildren: Matt Koerner (fiancé-Robyn Mascolino), Nate and Jessica Koerner, and Jim and Michelle Koerner; Jeff (fiancé-Erin Pfeffer) and Ryan Piaskowski, Amy (fiancé-Valerian Powell), Shari, and Lynn (fiancé-Andy Collins) Piaskowski; three great-grandchildren: Emma and Sophia Koerner, and Reed Koerner; one brother, Nick (Thelma) Matiash, Scottville, MI; three sisters: Dorothy Ewing, Rhinelander, WI, June Aschenbrenner, Laona, WI; and Lorraine Matiash, St. Louis, MO. In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Simon; three brothers, John Kalishevich, Joe and Chet Matiash; an infant brother, Paul. Friends may call Sunday, March 27, 2011 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N. Webster Ave., De Pere, where there will be a Parish Prayer Service at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of Mass at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 220 S. Michigan St., De Pere. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Monday at church, with the Rev. Patrick Beno officiating. Entombment will be in Allouez Mausoleum.
