Gary Lee Tomcheck, 81, Green Bay passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, February 2, 2025. Gary was born on October 31st, 1943 in Green Bay, the son of the late Edward and Priscella (Oudeans) Tomcheck. He was a 1962 graduate from Premontre Catholic High School. Gary was drafted into the Vietnam Conflict in 1966 and was a proud US Army Veteran. On April 22,1972 he married Joyce Marie Seidl at St. Mary's Catholic Church in the town of Glenmore, WI. They were happily married for 44 years.
Gary was employed at the Post Office for 35 years and retired in 2007. He was an exceptional record keeper and prepared taxes in his spare time for others.
Gary always gave 100 percent to everything he loved! He was an accomplished accordion player and played every chance he could. He had a tradition of putting his grandsons in his accordion case while he played his favorite polka songs such as “Roll Out the Barrel” for them.
Gary was known for being present at all of his daughters’ extra-curricular activities and grandsons’ Karate lessons. He went above and beyond with projects Joyce gave him, like it or not! Gary was known to make all the dance costumes for the entire dance teams for his girls. He was a huge supporter of Jill and Jennifer, and encouraged them to be competitive, especially while playing chess and Gorgar, his favorite pin ball machine.
Garys friends and family would classify him as a strategic card player who was skilled at counting cards with a poker face. He especially loved playing Sheepshead with his brothers, friends, and in-laws on holidays or whenever he could round up a group to play. Gary bowled in the Green Bay Major Bowling League for over 60 years. He also had a passion for collecting coins from all over the world.
Gary is survived by his daughters, Jill (Patrick) McCaughn; daughter, Jennifer (Jesse) Shoemaker; grandchildren, Mason McCaughn, Maxwell McCaughn, Jaxson Shoemaker & Jameson Shoemaker. and In-laws, Michael Seidl Jr., Patsy (Jim) Potts, David (Beverly) Seidl; sister-in-law, Jane Tomcheck; God daughter; Samantha Wautlet many nieces, nephews; relatives and friends.
Gary was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Tomcheck; parents, Edward and Priscilla (Oudeans) Tomcheck; his in-laws Michael and Lillian (Husnik) Seidl; brothers, Edward “Mick” Tomcheck Jr., Steve Tomcheck, sister and brother-in-law Carol and Darryl Derricks.
Friends and family are welcomed to visit on Friday, February 7th, at Resurrection Catholic Parish located at 333 Hilltop Drive in Green Bay. Visitation will begin at 2:30PM, mass at 4PM with military honors. Father Tom Reynebeau officiating.
There are no words to express how grateful we are for Bellevue Senior Living. The staff was like family to Gary. Aurora Home Hospice also provided exceptional care and support. We would also like to thank the dedicated staff at Aurora Hospital ICU.
