Elisabeth passed away on October 25 after a prolonged battle against cancer.
She completed her early education at Mary Our Queen School and Westside High School, and then graduated from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. After earning her medical degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Elisabeth completed a residency in General Surgery there. She strove to uphold the highest ideals of the medical profession in developing her surgical skills and caring for her patients. Dedicated to always doing her best, she worked faithfully as a fellow in Vascular Surgery at the Medical Center into October [one of her colleagues has admiringly referred to her as a “force of nature”].
Elisabeth loved to read and to walk the family dogs, and while in high school took an interest in horseback riding and in participating in hunter-jumper shows. Riding and caring for a horse was a highlight of her life. She developed a lasting affinity for France and French culture and society; before beginning medical school, she taught English for an academic year at a lycée in Besançon.
She was so much more than simple facts and mere words can convey. All who knew her recall her warm but knowing smile, her quiet confidence, her dogged determination, and her willingness to firmly but politely argue her points. While more than a match for any who would debate with her, she was at heart a thoughtful, kind and loving soul.
Elisabeth is loved and mourned by her mother and father, Joan and Stanley Tracey; her sister, Laura Tracey; her brothers Timothy (Zoe), Gregory (Lauryn) and Joseph; grandmother Marie Schweiner and many relatives, friends and colleagues. She was preceded in death by grandparents Mathew Schweiner, Irene and Stanley Tracey; and by aunt Sara Malay.
Public services were held in Nebraska, and Elisabeth will be laid to rest in All Saints Cemetery, Denmark.
