Edward George Vogel, MD, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, physician and humanitarian, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, service, and a deep love for family and community. Ed was born on June 8, 1940, in Benson, Illinois, to George and Dorothy Vogel. He grew up in a small farming town alongside his beloved younger sister, Diane, where his early life instilled in him both a strong work ethic and a desire to look beyond the horizon. He attended Bradley University, graduating in just three years before continuing on to Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine, where he earned his medical degree in 1965. He completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of California, San Francisco.
It was during his time in Chicago that he met the love of his life, Barbara Ann Coradini. Together, they embarked on a lifelong journey filled with adventure, service, and unwavering partnership through 61 years of marriage. Following his training, Ed fulfilled his naval service in Charleston before settling in Green Bay, Wisconsin, in 1972. There, he joined the Beaumont Clinic and later co-founded Bay West Gynecology alongside Drs. Sipes and Schaefer. Over the course of nearly 40 years, Ed delivered an estimated 18,000 babies-each one a testament to his dedication, skill, and compassion. Ed's commitment to caring extended far beyond his practice. Together with Barb, he discovered a profound calling through "Friends of Haiti." Over the years, Ed made 49 medical mission trips to Haiti, providing vital care to those in desperate need. His work there changed countless lives. Deeply moved by the suffering he witnessed, Ed and Barb opened their home and hearts, bringing children to Green Bay for life-changing medical care. In recognition of his extraordinary humanitarian efforts, Ed was honored in 2015 with the Alumni of the Year Award for Excellence in Community Service from Loyola University.
Ed embraced life with enthusiasm and curiosity. He loved his Packers, music, cars, and a well-made dirty martini with blue cheese-stuffed olives. He was an avid reader, often finishing entire novels in a single day. He and Barb shared a passion for travel, exploring the world together-from Europe and Asia to South America and even Antarctica, where Ed delighted in spotting his favorite seabird, the penguin. Always in search of adventure, he climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro at the age of 70. He cherished friendships, never missing an opportunity to eat at Rock Falls in Dykesville with his Wednesday Night Supper Club. He took great pride in his Delta Platinum status and always looked forward to the possibility of one more trip, especially to their beloved Cancun timeshare or Key West.
Above all, Ed adored his family. He was a loving husband to Barbara Ann, a proud father to seven children, and a joyful grandfather to twenty grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. His grandchildren especially adored his playful spirit, youthful energy, and charming disregard for convention. Ed is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann Coradini; his children: Laura (Robert) Vogel-Schwartz of Green Bay, WI; Elisabeth (Robert) Ballard of Freedom, WI; Amy (John) Haney of Treasure Island, FL; Edward Cory (Leslie) Vogel of Green Bay, WI; Jennifer (Arno) Gerbrecht of River Forest, IL; Sarah (Bryan) Vogel-Yagodzinski of Cedarburg, WI; and Katherine (Steven Schuster) Vogel. He is also survived by his twenty grandchildren: Anna (Brett) Leach, Alex Schwartz, Ryan Schwartz, Connor Ballard, Bailee Ballard, Isabella Ballard, Dylan Ballard, Christian (Morgan) Haney, Cole (Encar) Haney, Madeleine Haney, Fallon Haney, Ethan Vogel, Adam Vogel, Julia Vogel, Arno Gerbrecht, Eden Gerbrecht, Abbott Gerbrecht, Ryder Yagodzinski, Magnolia Yagodzinski, and Marina Yagodzinski; three great-grandchildren Mason Haney, Aubrey Haney and Lily Leach; his sister Diane Wheelwright; and sisters-in-law Diane Sutton and Madelyn Harris along with Louinel Caristhaine.
