Dr. Robert "Bob" T. Schmidt Jr.

July 25, 1944 — May 28, 2022

Dr. Robert T. Schmidt, Jr., of De Pere, WI and Hutchinson Island, FL, aged 77, passed away suddenly in his home in Ephraim Saturday May 28, 2022. Bob was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, great-uncle and friend, and will be dearly missed.

Bob is survived by his wife, Maureen Liebergen Schmidt, his children, Paul (Mary Catherine Berner) Schmidt, Joseph (Susie) Schmidt, and Margaret (Brendan) McDermott; his step-children Sarah (Sean) McCabe and Emily (Matthew) Pierre; his grandchildren Ella, Evan, Gavin, Caroline, Elizabeth, Emma, Abigail and Katherine Schmidt, Josephine, Julia and Sean McCabe, and Elise and Lena Pierre; his brothers Richard (Karin) Schmidt, John (Amy) Schmidt and Fritz (Beth) Schmidt; his sister-in-law Katy Schmidt; and many in-laws, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Carol Schmidt (née O’Brien), parents Robert and Jane Schmidt, and brother Jim Schmidt.

Bob was born on July 25, 1944, in Milwaukee, WI to Robert, M.D., and Jane (Sterling) Schmidt. He grew up in Green Bay as the oldest of five boys where he excelled in school, joined the Sea Scouts, leading to a lifelong love of boating, and learned to golf. He received his B.S. from Marquette University in 1966 and his M.D. from the Medical College of Wisconsin in 1970. He served his internship at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and his residency in neurology at Northwestern University. He followed in his father’s and grandfather’s footsteps as physicians and opened the first neurology practice in Green Bay in 1975. He served terms as President of the Brown County Medical Society and President of the Wisconsin Neurological Society.

Bob was lucky in this life to have two loving marriages. He surrounded himself with loving family and friends who greatly appreciated his dry wit and sense of humor.

Bob was a gifted physician and an innate intellectual that resulted in him being an expert on many things and the person to consult if you had a problem. He had a natural curiosity that led him on countless adventures and to endless reading. He was an avid golfer, expert boater, runner, walker, tennis player, skier, dancer, dedicated family man, lover of used books and an impressive hat collector.

A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at 3pm on June 18, 2022, at Oneida Golf & Country Club.
