Douglas Warren Hjorth, age 64, of De Pere, passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2017. He was born in Green Bay, WI on May 22, 1952, to William and Irene Hjorth, of De Pere. He was a lifelong resident of East De Pere and graduated from East De Pere High School in 1970. He then attended UW-Stevens Point, graduating in 1974. Photography opened a wonderful world to me. I sold advertising for The Compass Newspaper and was their photographer for twenty-five years, which was my primary dream, It gave me the opportunity to photograph six Presidents and numerous Packer games as well as hundreds of religious events in the area. I had the opportunity to work with Jim Alt in his publishing business. Jim and I syndicated stories and photos across the nation and worked on many book projects. The United Nations even chose one of my photos to use in an international publication. I ran my own photo business for twenty-five years and enjoyed it immensely. Thanks to my mother for giving me the support to follow my dream. There is nothing better than doing what you love and getting paid for it too! I had the opportunity to work for St. Norbert College for the past twenty years. It’s been a pleasure being part of a very noble community. I enjoyed working with the Ducks Unlimited organization. A big shout out to all my friends there. It was an honor to know and work side by side with you for the ducks. A special thanks to all my family and friends especially Donna and Beth. Also thanks to my wonderful friends Jim, Audrey, Nancy and Randy who stuck with me in good times and bad. “I think beauty is in the details. In a photo, a conversation or a person, it’s the little things that make you care.” He is survived by his sister in laws, Cindy Bauman and Donna Hjorth, niece, Beth Marie (James) Saliger and their children; Joslyn, Landen, Rayne, Hayley and Thea and nephew, Bill Yorth. Doug was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Olaf and Mena Johnson, his mother, Irene Hjorth, father, William Hjorth and brothers, William and John Hjorth.
