Donald E. Dickrell

Donald E. Dickrell, age 85, of Cooperstown, WI passed away with his family at his side on Wednesday, December 24th at Woodside Senior Community in Green Bay where he had been recovering after a fall on October 31st.

He was born on July 23, 1940 in the Town of Russell to Nicholas and Norma (Becker) Dickrell. Don attended St. Anna Grade School in St. Anna WI, and graduated from St. Gregory High School in St. Nazianz, in 1959. Don enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Germany for 31 months. On October 2, 1965 he married Virginia Westphalen in New Holstein.

Don was dedicated to his work, starting at HG Weber and Tri-Country Co-op in Keil. He moved to Denmark in 1966 to work as Hardware Manager at Denmark Co-op Services. He started at Wegner Implement in Langes Corners in 1972 and continued selling John Deere equipment until retiring from Reisterer and Schnell in 2006.

Don was a member of St. James Catholic church in Cooperstown. He was a long-standing and dedicated member of the Church Choir who was known for his harmonica playing. He had been a Trustee of the Denmark Village Board, and was a proud member of American Legion Post 363. He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, growing pumpkins, visiting with friends and family, bowling, bow hunting, playing music with friends, and could fix just about anything.

Don is survived by his wife Ginny of 60 years; daughter Denise Heimerl of Green Bay; son Marty (Chandra Hanke) Dickrell of Minneapolis; son Paul (the late Becky) Dickrell and grand-daughters Alyssa, Paige, Emma, and Cassie of Milwaukee; Peg (Jason) Feltz and grand-children Morgan (fiance Tyler Parks) and Aiden of Neenah; sister Theresa (the late Glenroy) Greuel of New Holstein; brother Nicholas Jr. (Mary) Dickrell of Green Bay; sister-in-law Marlene (the late Leo) Dickrell of Kiel; sister-in-law Rosella (the late Roman) Dickrell of New Holstein; sister-in-law Evelyn (the late Melvin) Zeman of Racine; sister-in-law Elenor (the late Wilbur) Westphalen of Plymouth. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Clarence (Luella) Dickrell, Martha (Edward) Kasprazak, Elvira (Laverne) Minor, Cyrina (Henry) Turek, Mary Ann Mytko, Sr. Imelda Ann Dickrell, Ermina (Roland) Mekka, Aurelia (Wilmer) Krebsbach, Clement Dickrell, Imelda (Alphonse) Faust, Cletus (Rose) Dickrell; mother-and-father-in-law Roland and Thekla Westphalen; brothers-and-sisters-in-law Romilda (Reuben) Heinen, Armella (Thomas) Sabell, Harriet (Karl) Kappelman, Allen (Lorraine) Westphalen. Family and friends may visit at Cotter Funeral Home- Denmark Chapel (536 County Road R) on Sunday, January 4, 2026, from 4-7pm. Visitation will continue January 5, at St. James Catholic Church in Cooperstown (18228 County Road R) from 9:00am until 10:15am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am with the Very Rev. Brian Belongia officiating. Burial will be in Eaton Union Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Legion Post 363 in Denmark or St. James Catholic Church in Cooperstown.

The family wishes to thank all the caregivers and friends at the Green Bay VA Dialysis Center. We are grateful for everyone’s thoughts, visits, and prayers over the past several weeks.
