David Joseph Baugnet

August 16, 1939 — March 18, 2024

David J. Baugnet, age 84, was welcomed into Heaven on Monday, March 18, 2024, with family by his side. David was born the youngest of 10 on August 16, 1939, to the late John and Juila (Beaurain) Baugnet. David overcame spinal meningitis as a young boy, not just surviving but defying expectations. He graduated from St. Francis grade school in 1956, dedicated 41 years to working at H.C. Prange Co. (Younkers), drove a vehicle until his 70s, and lived on his own until he went to Heaven.

David enjoyed helping everyone! He would load up his array of tools, including the lawn mower, snow blower, rake, and more, and arrive at your home, sometimes unannounced. He would even leave without a trace, but you would know he was there by the impeccable state of your lawn or driveway. He wouldn’t ask for anything or expect anything in return, but he was always thankful for a hot meal, sweets (ice cream being his favorite), or cash to take to the casino.

David took a lot of pride in his home inside and out. He loved to show others his home, especially at Christmas as he loved to decorate. He was very particular about his lawn (and his neighbors’ lawns) and he would be seen using scissors to meticulously trim his grass, ensuring it was just perfect. Seeing him sitting on his lawn chair in front of his house will be missed by many.

David was always active. If he wasn’t helping someone or working on his home, you might spot him at the casino, enjoying some time with his brother Arnie, or attending a family celebration.

Thank you to family members who have helped David throughout his life, including his brother Kenny’s family, his brother Arnie and sister-in-law Nancy, and his great-niece Emily. Also, a special thank you to his nephew Matthew. David relied heavily on Matthew for the last couple years of his life. David frequently reached out to Matthew (sometimes 17 times a day), and Matthew unfailingly came to his aid. Whether it was fixing his phone or television, taking him to doctor appointments, or their weekly trips to Piggly Wiggly, Matthew was always there for him.

David is survived by his sister Kathy and sister-in-laws Nancy Baugnet and Esther Baugnet, along with several other nieces and nephews.
