David Earl Gehlhoff

After 63 years of marriage and eight months living with a broken heart, David Gehlhoff was reunited with the love of his life, his wife Jean. With strength, humor, and a deep love for his family, David peacefully passed away on June 11, 2026. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories and traditions that will continue through the family he cherished so deeply.

Born on June 1, 1940, in Stambaugh, MI to Jane and George Gehlhoff, David grew up with a strong work ethic, a generous heart, and a love for bringing people together. It was during his years in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula that he met his beloved wife, Jean Claire Stoor. Their story began in high school and grew into a marriage that lasted a lifetime.

After beginning his career in Milwaukee, David and Jean built a life together centered around family and community. David’s entrepreneurial spirit led them to Green Bay, where they opened and operated Dave’s Stagger Inn. The tavern became much more than a business—it was a gathering place where friendships were formed, stories were shared, and countless good times were enjoyed in groups like the Green Bay Fun Club. Later, David and Jean purchased The Den, expanding their circle of friends and creating even more memories along the way.

David’s love for the Green Bay Packers became a treasured part of his life. David and Jean enjoyed season tickets at Lambeau Field, cheering from the 50-yard line and attending countless away games for more than 30 seasons. David was also a long standing member of the Moose Lodge and the Rod & Gun Club.

Towards the end of his career, David found great pride and joy working at Schroeder’s Flowers, where he cared for flowers and enjoyed his watering route throughout the city. His love of gardening was a gift he passed down to his children, who have carried on that same appreciation and passion.

Above all, David’s greatest pride and joy was his family. Whether spending summers at the family’s cottage in the U.P., gathering around the table, celebrating milestones, or simply sharing stories, David treasured every moment with his children and their spouses, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends. He will be remembered for his unique character, his faith, countless family traditions, generosity, perseverance, and the way he made people feel welcome.

David is deeply missed by his children, Don, Kim (Andy) Scray, Kevin (Lisa) Gehlhoff, and Dena (Chris) Fellows-Lese; his grandchildren, Ashley (Hayden) Peterson, Marissa (Mitchell) Burbach, Brittany (Dustin) Bokath, Craig Gehlhoff, Zoe and Amara Fellows, Aidan, Nathanial, and Audrey Lese; his great-grandsons, Theo Peterson and Miles Burbach; brother Kenneth Gehlhoff, many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jean; parents; siblings Ronnie (Bonnie) Gehlhoff, Judy (Jerry) Thier, Joan (Bill) Marcell, Jackie (John) Waite, Julie Esbrook, son-in-law Aaron Fellows, close friend Harold Mertens, and many friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, to honor David’s life. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am, with a service at 12:00 pm, officiated by Reverend Mike Ingold at St. Mary’s Parish in DePere.

Our family is extremely grateful for the wonderful care David received at St. Vincent Hospital, Rennes Health & Rehab Center and the Unity Hospice Center.
