Daniel “Dan” Janssen, 95, De Pere, passed away peacefully Friday March 11, 2022, surrounded by his family.
Dan was born August 2, 1926, to the late William and Gertude (Coenen) Janssen. When he was 18 years old, he was drafted into the Army, upon returning from the Army in 1946, two years later he married Dorothy Lavey. Dan started a job at Milprint and was elected president of Local 1203 of the United Paper workers Union and as an International Representative until his retirement in 1992. Dan was an avid walker, gardener, birdwatcher and woodworker.
Dan is survived by his wife Dorothy, children Daniel R. Janssen, Nancy (Mark) Shillcox, Steve (Kathy) Janssen, grandchildren; Brook (Josh) Schroeder, Mike (special friend Alicia), Janelle (Nick) Klubertanz, Brett (Rebecca) Janssen, Hayley (Tyler) Swenson, great grandchildren; Emily, Madilyn, Ella, Rylee, Addison, and Austin, brother Ken, and sister-in-law Donna.
Preceded in death by his parents William and Gertude (Coenen) Janssen, his daughter Patricia, granddaughter Katie Shillcox, 3 sisters Johanna Wellens, Alice Hutjens, Josephine Gossen, and brothers Louis Janssen, and Robert Janssen.
The family would like to thank Aurora, Unity Hospice, and The Courtyard of Bellevue for their outstanding care, compassion, and thoughtfulness for Dan during this difficult time.
Visitation for Dan will be held Wednesday March 16, 2022, from 9am to 10:45am at St, Mary’s Catholic Church (4805 Sportsman Drive, De Pere), with a Mass of Christian Burial officiated by Father Matt Faucett. A Private Burial will take place at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Cotter Funeral Home and Cremation Care is assisting the family.
