Charles (Chuck) Maass

December 28, 1928 — January 23, 2022

Charles “Chuck” Maass, 93, was called to his eternal home Sunday evening January 23, 2022. Chuck was born December 28, 1928, in Green Bay. He was the only child born to Carl and Martha (Wierschke) Maass.

Dad grew up on the Maass family homestead located just north of Wrightstown along highway “ZZ” on the Fox River. Dad had many stories to tell about his childhood years living on the family farm near the river. Memories such as: ice skating on the river, swimming across the river, a two mile hike to Ravine School “walking uphill both ways”. Together with his parents, he milked about 30 dairy cattle and raised turkeys to sell to people who came from all over the area to purchase their Thanksgiving bird for dinner.

Dad said he went to high school, but only entered the front door and walked out the back door. Dad was a self-taught man and a “Jack of all trades”! He mastered many of those trades. He could fix or repair almost anything and through the years he held many, many part time jobs along with running the family dairy farm and a hog farm.

On January 10th, 1953, Chuck married Arlene Fischer from Lannon, Wisconsin. Together they bought a farm on Wrightstown Road in the town of Rockland about a mile up the road from the original Maass homestead. Dad and Mom did a wonderful job raising a family of seven children teaching us the meaning of hard work, family commitment, Christian faith and values.

Dad and Mom sold both farms in 1990 and moved to Wrightstown. During these retirement years they enjoyed the good life of travel, especially to Florida to visit their son Jerry and his family. Dad took up golf and actually got a hole-in-one at a golf course in Florida. It was an unbelievably proud moment for him.

Together Mom and Dad enjoyed 57 years of marriage until her passing in 2010. Dad remained in fairly good health until recently. He enjoyed going for drives, spending time visiting family and friends, going to church and out to eat. Dad will be remembered for his “corny” jokes and sense of humor, and easy-going nature. He made himself available to those who needed help in fixing stuff as well as being a wonderful caregiver to our Mom and our brother Ken meeting their physical needs. Many people have said to us kids “your Dad was one of the good guys!” He was a friend to all.

Dad will forever be and dearly missed by his children and heirs. Jerry (Anne) Maass and their children Jenna (Rob), Lauren (Zak), and Chandler; Lou Beard and her children Eric and Brandon (Amanda) Beard; Bob Maass and his daughter Amber (Aaron) Schroeder; Mary (Dick) Fritsch and their children Nathan (Jen), Nicki (Josh) Myers and Noah (Kari) Fritsch; Char (Ken) Lemke and their children Chris (Melinda) Ryan (Amy) and Jamie (Brad) Hein; and finally Ed Maass. Chuck is also survived by 22 great-grandchildren which he loved dearly.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Arlene, his youngest son Ken, and a daughter in law Betty Maass.
