Carla Mae Sasman Cain, 94, of Anderson, South Carolina passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at Hospice of the Upstate Center in South Carolina. Carla was born on January 18, 1932, in Green Bay, Wisconsin to the late Carl and Edna Sasman. Carla was a Registered Nurse graduating from the Bellin School of Nursing in 1952. She also earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from the University of Wisconsin - Green Bay. She worked her entire career of 42 years at Bellin Memorial Hospital, mostly as Head Nurse of Orthopedics.
She was a great comfort to her patients, a leader to her staff, and a critical part of Bellin’s journey toward its role as a prominent regional healthcare provider.
She was a consultant with her dear friend Jane Farrell who published what became the key reference guide for orthopedic nursing across the country. She also served as a key speaker at several nursing conventions throughout the United States. After Carla retired, she stayed active volunteering at Bethesda Thrift Store and at DePere Christian Outreach.
Carla is survived by her brother Carl James (Dianne) and her children Jeffrey (Donna) and their children Patrick and Caitlin; Mark (Amy) and their children Brian and Joseph; Sharon (Terry Powers) and their children Laura and Matthew; Steven (Deborah deceased) and their daughter Jessica. She is also survived by her dear nieces and nephews Judy Knope; Sue, Tim, Janie, Nancy, Jay and Peggy Sasman. She was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Edna, and siblings Elvera Knope, Beretta Nelson, Elwood Sasman and infant Kenneth. Also included are her long-time dear friends Jane Farrell, Joyce Hawkins, Lynn Johnson, Mary Ann Hershfield, and Helen and Tony Ciango.
Family and friends may gather at Faith Lutheran Church, 2335 S. Webster Avenue, Green Bay on May 1st. Visitation is from 12pm to 1pm. Services will be from 1pm to 2pm. Cemetery services will be at Nicolet Memorial Gardens, 2770 Bay Settlement Road, Green Bay at 2:30pm. All services will be officiated by Pastor Joshua Errer of Faith Lutheran Church.
