Bernice E. LeCaptain, 87, of rural Maribel passed away unexpectedly on January 23, 2024. She was born June 23, 1936, in Manitowoc County to Charles and Frances (Baumgart) Goessl. Bernice graduated from Mishicot Community High School in 1953.
Bernice worked in the office at Paragon Electric. She married Robert A. LeCaptain on July 20, 1957 in Mishicot. While raising eight children, she worked on the farm with her husband. When all their children were in school, Bernice started driving school bus as a substitute for the Mishicot School District leading to full time until her retirement from driving bus in approximately 2005.
She enjoyed square dancing, gardening, sewing, crocheting and especially time with the young children on the school bus. She was on the committee to establish 4-H Camp Tapawingo. She was a 4-H leader when her children enrolled in 4-H.
She was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Cooperstown where she was a member of the Christian Mothers Altar Society and served as a lector for many years.
Bernice is survived by her husband of 66 years Robert, children Barbara LeCaptain (special friend Kenneth Reedy), Manitowoc; William (Linda) LeCaptain, Manitowoc; Bernard LeCaptain, rural Maribel; Norbert LeCaptain, Superior; Beverly (Derek) Fuerbringer, Madison; Mary (Tom) Cisler, Larrabee; Nancy (Paul) Snouffer, Luck; daughter-in-law Pat, Two Rivers; grandchildren Amanda (James) Staab, Jennifer (Riley) Spiering, Michael LeCaptain, Christopher Fuerbringer, Amber Fuerbringer, Brandi LeCaptain (fiancé Scott Popelka), Dustin LeCaptain, Matt Cisler, Luke Cisler; great grandchildren Sawyer and Liam Staab. She is further survived by sister-in-law Althea Bogart; brothers-in-law Donald (Dorothy) LeCaptain, Alan LeCaptain, Carlton (Jelain) LeCaptain, many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by a son Francis LeCaptain, granddaughter Molly Cisler, brother Donald Goessl; sister-in-law Rita (Norman) Paul; brothers-in-law Eugene (Sally) LeCaptain and Louie Bogart.
Family and friends can gather on Monday, January 29, 2024 at Cotter Funeral Home, 536 County Rd R, Denmark from 4:30pm to 7:30pm. A short gathering will be held on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 from 10:00am until 10:45am, with the Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00am at St. James Catholic Church, 18228 County Road R, Denmark, Fr. Santiago Turiano Jr. officiating.
