Amy Jo Schlafer

May 12, 1966 — Jul 10, 2026

Amy Jo Schlafer, née Weist, passed away on July 10, 2026.

Born on May 12, 1966, in Kenton, Ohio, Amy was the daughter of Phil and Le Ann Weist.

While attending St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin, Amy met the love of her life, Jon Schlafer. As a Little Sister of the Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity, she formed lifelong friendships and met the man she would marry. Amy and Jon were married on May 9, 1986, beginning a partnership built on love, faith, and adventure that spanned 40 years.

As the wife of a United States Army officer, Amy embraced military life with grace, resilience, and enthusiasm. Together, she and Jon made their home in Hawaii, Germany, and several states throughout the country, forming lifelong friendships everywhere they lived. Amy earned her bachelor’s degree from Chaminade University of Honolulu and worked in social work, serving others with compassion. Later, at the U.S. Army Education Center at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, she found great fulfillment helping soldiers pursue their educational goals and prepare for the future.

Above all else, Amy’s greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted wife and an extraordinary mother who never missed an opportunity to support her son, Ben. Whether volunteering at school, helping with Scouts, cheering from the sidelines at sporting events, or simply being present for every milestone, Amy gave of herself wholeheartedly. Her love, encouragement, and unwavering support were gifts that shaped the lives of those she loved.

Amy approached life with a spirit of adventure. Hawaii always held a special place in her heart, and she treasured every opportunity to return. She also loved traveling throughout Europe. There was always another destination to explore and another trip waiting to be planned.

She was a proud and loyal Green Bay Packers fan, a longtime season ticket holder who was rarely seen without green and gold on game day. She also proudly cheered on Kansas State University, where her son attended college.

Amy had a special love for animals, especially her beloved dogs, Gizmo, Molly, and Bear, all of whom preceded her in death and remained close to her heart throughout her life.

Amy is survived by her devoted husband, Jon Schlafer; her beloved son, Ben Schlafer, and his wife, Ann; her father, Phil Weist; her mother-in-law, Nancy Schlafer; her siblings, Robyn Weist, Rod and Anne Weist, Todd and Donna Weist, and Renee Ferrara; and her brothers- and sisters-in-law, Frank and Jenny Schlafer, Rodney Schlafer, Joi and Greg Ahrens, and Suzanne and Russ Blazek.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Le Ann Weist; her father-in-law, Frank Schlafer; and her sister-in-law, Lisa Schlafer. She also leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were enriched by her kindness and love.

Amy will be remembered for her generous heart, adventurous spirit, and unwavering devotion to her family. She found joy in serving others, exploring the world, cheering on those she loved, and creating lasting memories with family and friends. Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched and in the enduring love she shared so freely.

A celebration of Amy’s life will be announced by the family at a later date.
