Allen "Al" Schmahl

Allen C. Schmahl, 92, of Manitowoc, passed away Saturday, May 13, 2023. The son of William and Anna (Diefenthaler) Schmahl, was born October 7, 1930, in Rhine, Wisconsin. He married Gloria Ehlers on June 4, 1955, in Kiel, WI. This union was blessed with two children, Larry and Dawn. Al and Gloria shared 46 years of marriage before her passing in 2002.

Al worked for Wisconsin Aluminum Foundry for 29 years. He also worked on his own hobby farm for many years.

He had an appreciation for antique cars, especially his Thunderbird. He also liked to tinker with small engines in his spare time.

Al is survived by his son, Larry (Sandy) Schmahl; his grandchildren: Preston (Ashley) Pieschek, Lawton (Breanne) Pieschek, Alayna (special friend Diallo) Pieschek, Sheena (Ricky) Craanen, and Darren (Corina) Schmahl; multiple great-grandchildren; his special friend, Lillian, and her children; his sister Marilyn Laack and her friend, George. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Al was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gloria; his daughter Dawn Pieschek; and five of his siblings.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Sylvan Crossing Assisted Living and Sharon Richardson Hospice for the compassionate care Al received.

Family and friends may gather Friday, May 19, 2023, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Cotter Funeral and Cremation Care Denmark Chapel, 536 County Road R, Denmark, WI. A funeral service for Al will begin at 6:00 pm with Pastor Andrew Zoerb officiating.

Al’s final resting place will be Schleswig Cemetery in Kiel, WI.
